Aaron Ramsdale has opened up about his relationship with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper has spoken about how there is no bad blood between him and his former boss. The keeper has moved to Southampton in the summer transfer window. The player has only thanked Arteta after his exit from the club.
Ramsdale bid farewell to the Gunners after a last-day deal was made between Southampton and Arsenal. The club’s no.1 goalkeeper is now David Raya.
The 26-year-old has always been available for Arsenal in their 2023-2024 title race. The keeper has also started in all the first 5 games for the Gunners last season. Since Raya’s debut, Arteta has preferred him a bit more. Although Mikel has backed Ramsdale, the manager prefers to start with the Spanish goalkeeper.
Ever since Raya entered the squad Ramsdale has been forced to watch the game from the substitute bench.
After being on the bench this season English keeper wanted to be the first choice for the team. He accepted the offer as soon it came from newly qualified Southampton. The player made his debut the very next day. Whoever Aaron is fighting his team’s relegation matches from Premier League title fights.
Aaron keeps good relations with former boss
The Goalkeeper says that after the move there are no ill thoughts of the manager from him. While talking to talkSPORT the keeper went on to say what the manager said to him-
“What he did for me during my time in Arsenal I can only thank him. He also thanked me for my contribution to the club”
Aaron has admitted that he has no bad thoughts about his former boss. He added that his final season was nothing but everything more to learn. Arteta was full of appreciation for the player being an important part of the squad. Ramsdale spent a total of 2 years with the gunners.
The English goalie however proved to be an upgrade to his predecessor Bernd Leno. He also had big contributions in improving the Gunners almost ending their trophy drought in 2023.
Ramsdale is not new to seeing his team battling relegation. His time with Bournemouth and Sheffield United were also in relegation clashes. Aaron has been an important player for these small clubs as well.
The situation with the national team has not been very different with Ramsdale. Jordan Pickford has been the no.1 choice goalie for the England national team. The new Southampton player has had a fresh start with the club. He is delighted to be his new team’s primary option.
Raya has been exceptional for the Gunners

Two performances were shortlisted for the Keeper for the award. The first one was his contributions and saves against the Wolves. The winner was his outstanding save against Aston Villa. His outstanding reaction denied Villa player Ollie Watkins to score against Gunners.
The Spanish international’s incredible moment came in the 54th minute with a score of 0-0. A deflected shot sent Raya towards the goal line. After ricocheting off the crossbar Ollie Watkins had to simply put it home. However, David leapt off the ground and tipped the striker’s shot over for a corner. This important intervention led to the Gunners winning the game 2-0.
Speaking in the post-match interview Raya said-
“I’m on the floor so I try to get up but I can’t reach it. I see Ollie get in there so I quickly get up and get a touch to the ball . Fortunately there’s no one to get to the ball”.
It is the third time that an Arenal keeper has won this award. Ever since the introduction of this award in the 2022-2023 campaign. Aaron Ramsdale had won twice in March and April of 2023. No club has won this more than Arsenal. David Raya will now look to be exceptional ahead of the North London derby.
