AC Milan are still interested in signing Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea

Hakim Ziyech

Hakim Ziyech joined Chelsea in a deal worth €40 million from Ajax. The winger was signed after impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League. However, the Moroccan magician has not found it easy in West London.

Ziyech started his Chelsea career on a positive note under manager, Frank Lampard. He scored two goals and assisted one in his first two starts for the club. However, things quickly changed as Frank Lampard was sacked in January 2021.

Thomas Tuchel, the new manager of Chelsea preferred to deploy a 3-4-2-1 formation. Due to the change in formation, Ziyech was either used as a narrow forward behind the striker or as a wing-back. The Moroccan was not able to adapt to the formation as well as he would have hoped.

Hakim Ziyech is known for his ability to provide pin-point crosses and create opportunities from the flanks. As a narrow forward, Ziyech was unable to use the flanks as the wing-back would usually surge forward to provide the width. Whenever played as a wing-back, Ziyech was not able to cope with the defensive responsibilities and was often found struggling against opposition wingers.

Hakim Ziyech will suit AC Milan’s style of play

The reigning Serie A champions have expressed an interest in acquiring the services of Hakim Ziyech. The Rossoneri are embroiled in negotiations with Chelsea over a potential transfer for the winger.

Stefano Pioli is known to play a back four and wide forwards to support his central striker. The wingers are able to play with width and create opportunities for the striker. Therefore, it is apparent that Hakim Ziyech suits the style of play that AC Milan are known for.

The Moroccan has scored 14 goals in 83 appearances for Chelsea. The signing has been underwhelming for the Blues to say the least. Thus, Chelsea are eager to offload the winger to reinvest in their transfer targets.

Hakim Ziyech is also intrigued by the prospect of playing for AC Milan. The player is eager to join the Serie A champions this summer in an attempt to rejuvenate his career.

It is down to the negotiations between the clubs related to a fee for the player. However, AC Milan is optimistic as the club shares a good relationship with Chelsea. The relationship is evident from the recent transfers of Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori between the clubs.
