AC Milan chasing Euro and Czech Republic star Patrick Schick

FINANCIAL FAIR PLAY

AC Milan have set their site on Czech Republic striker Patrick Schick. According to Calciomercato.it, Milan are interested in signing the Bayer Leverkusen player.

Schick has impressed in the ongoing Euro 2020 campaign for his nation. He has scored 4 goals from 4 matches, including a stunning long ranger. AC Milan had a prior interest in the player and is set to rekindle it.

Milan are in the market to bolster their attack and considers the former Roma player to be a good choice. However they will have to pay around €30m to sign Schick.

IMPRESSING AT THE EUROS

Patrick Schick has impressed everyone on the major stage. His 4 goals put him second in the top scorer’s list of the Euro and have been instrumental in taking his side to the quarter-final.

However, Schick had to endure mixed success in his career so far. The Czech international move to Bayer Leverkusen last season from AS Roma for around €25m. He scored 13 times for the club in his 36 appearances in all competitions.

Prior to his move to Leverkusen, Schick had a loan spell with RB Leipzig where he scored 10 times for them in the Bundesliga in his 22 appearances. But the move was not made permanent, and Leverkusen took the risk on him. An excellent aerial threat, Schick likes to lay off the ball for his teammates. While his club career has not been impressive, he has managed to score 15 times for his nation in 30 appearances.

MILAN TO REKINDLE SCHICK INTEREST

Milan’s interest in the player dated back to the time when Marco Giampaolo was their manager. While no move happened, the Rossoneri are looking to finally bring him to Milan.

Schick does bring experience having played in Italy. He has played for both Sampdoria and Roma prior to his move to Germany. In his 78 appearances in Serie A, however, he was only able to score 16 goals. His lack of output could be attributed to his age as well as the quality of the sides he was playing for.

Milan are in need of options in the center-forward position. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is recovering from his injury and at 39 is not a long-term solution. Rafael Leao is the other option and has not been impressive. Reports also emerged that Leao could be sold this summer.

Hence a move for Schick is sensible. Still, only 25, if the Czech international can take his side further into the competition, more clubs could be tempted at taking a punt at the player. Milan who are also linked with Olivier Giroud of Chelsea could spend wisely on a younger player like Schick in the market.
