AC Milan latest club to join the race for Barcelona star Phillipe Coutinho

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

According to a report by Tuttosport, AC Milan are interested to sign the Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho this summer. Despite being a flop at Camp Nou the Brazilian has been able to attract some clubs, while AC Milan are the new addition to the race.

Coutinho started his career in Italy with Inter Milan, following which he went to play for Espanyol, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich. The Brazilian showed some of his best performance for Liverpool where he played for five years. The midfielder appeared 201 times while scoring 54 goals and 45 assists in all competitions. But, he failed to lift any trophy in his five years stay with the Reds.

However, an empty trophy cabinet at Liverpool didn’t affect his career nor his value in the transfer market. Barcelona paid a record fee of £140million to sign the midfielder in 2018. The Catalans lacked in the attacking play after Neymar left 2017 for Paris-Saint-Germain. Following which they bought his national teammate to fill up the position.

But that expensive transfer is labeled as a failure as Coutinho has failed to perform over the last few years. The Brazilian has only able to appeared 90 times, due to his frequent injury. While his form in front of the goal is also not impressive.

Following his poor performance, Barcelona are desperate to load off Coutinho this summer, while his high wage is another reason to sell him. But the club has to wait until he recovers from the knee injury, which he suffered in December. The Catalans may have some buyers for Coutinho as Arsenal, Marseille, Everton and now AC Milan have shown interest to sign him.

AC Milan are interested to add Coutinho to their midfield next season

AC Milan had a great season this year, as they finished second in the Serie A table. The Rossoneri won against Atlanta in the last matchday, marking their return to the Champions League after 8 years.

Following the return of Milan, Stefano Pioli is looking to strengthen his team for a great comeback in the Champions League next season. He is looking into the midfield position for the starter, as Hakan Calhanoglu left the club for free this summer. Following this situation, the Italian coach has targeted Barcelona’s midfielder, Phillippe Coutinho.

However, it is not clear what deal will AC Milan table to secure the services of the Brazilian midfielder. But as per several reports, it seems that Rossoneri might offer a loan deal or a swap deal to the Catalans for Coutinho.

If Milan is positive to sign the midfielder this summer, they should choose the swap deal over the loan deal. Because Barcelona might not agree to a loan deal because they want to get rid of Coutinho permanently. While other clubs are also offering at least £35 million to sign the Brazilian. So, let’s see if AC Milan can sign Coutinho or the other clubs will sign him this summer.
