AC Milan set to profit from transfer business between Atalanta and Monza

The reigning Serie A champions have been proactive in the transfer market since the start of the window. The Rossoneri have already secured a deal for Alessandro Florenzi on a permanent transfer from Roma. Divock Origi has also completed his transfer to Milan on a free transfer as announced by the Rossoneri.

Amidst, all the transfer activity, AC Milan could receive approximately €7.5 million from the transfer of Matteo Pessina to Monza. The newly-promoted club have secured a loan deal for the Italy international from Atalanta.

Monza have reportedly reached an agreement with Atalanta for a loan with an option to buy for €15 million for Matteo Pessina. However, the option to buy will become an obligation to buy if Monza is able to avoid relegation.

Why are AC Milan expected to receive €7.5 million?

In 2017, AC Milan confirmed a deal to swap Andrea Conti and Matteo Pessina with Atalanta. As part of the deal, AC Milan also included a sell-on clause for Matteo Pessina. The sell-on clause is worth 50% of the transfer fees for Pessina.

The sell-on clause is still active as Matteo Pessina has not completed 100 appearances for Atalanta. The Rossoneri will only receive €3 million if Pessina had completed 100 appearances for the Bergamo outfit. Therefore, if Monza avoids the drop, AC Milan will be in line to receive proceeds from the €15 million transfer of Matteo Pessina.

However, on the player side, it is an excellent move for Matteo Pessina. The Italy international is returning to his boyhood club. Matteo Pessina was born in Monza and started his career at this club before moving to AC Milan. The Italy International has also been appointed as Club Captain upon his arrival. The midfielder will be eager to step onto the pitch and lead from the front.
