AC Milan settled for Sergino Dest after evaluating all options for Right Back role

Sergino Dest

AC Milan have bolstered their squad this summer with an aim to defend their Scudetto. The club signed Charles De Ketelaere, Divock Origi, and Aster Vranckx to strengthen their options. Aster Vranckx has been signed as a replacement for Franck Kessie. The Ivorian has left the club after his contract expired with the Serie A champions.

However, the Rossoneri has also signed crucial players for the backline. Malick Thiaw, Alessandro Florenzi and Sergino Dest have arrived at the San Siro this summer. Alessandro Florenzi was signed to provide cover to Davide Calabria in the right-back role. However, the Italian wingback has been ruled out for a substantial period due to injury.

Due to this injury setback, the club had to sign another wing back to ensure proper depth. AC Milan eventually settled for Segino Dest on an initial loan deal from Barcelona. However, the club had explored multiple options before signing Sergino Dest.

Alvaro Odriozola and Davide Zappacosta were the options considered by AC Milan

Paolo Maldini has been leading the transfer activity of the Rossoneri this season. The Italian legend was faced with the difficulty of singing a full-back in the last days of the transfer window. Alvaro Odriozola of Fiorentina was an option for the club as the Spanish full-back has impressed in Serie A.

Davide Zappacosta has also been on their radar as the Italian has been impressive for Atalanta. The Rossoneri considered the option to sign both these full-backs, however, eventually settled for the young Sergino Dest. The American international rose to prominence at Ajax and subsequently moved to Barcelona under Ronald Koeman.

However, the American has failed to impress or establish himself as the first choice right back. Xavi Hernandez has been clear that he does not trust Sergino Dest in the right-back role. AC Milan has used the opportunity to their advantage by signing the promising defender and will hope that he can find his feet again at the San Siro after a disappointing spell in Spain!!
