AFC President: 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup will be spectacular

India is set to host another mega event – the 2022 AFC Women‘s Asian Cup. Previously, the 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup, also hosted by India, was a major success. AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa asserted that the upcoming meet will be a spectacular celebration of women’s football.

There are 100 days left for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) unveiled ‘Our Goal for All’ – the official tagline.

The slogan underlines the AFC and LOC’s commitment and determination to exhibit the best of Asian women’s football in India. This takes place despite the setbacks of the pandemic. The Continent’s top 12 teams will vie for the distinguished title. The tournament will be between January 20 and February 6, 2022, across Pune, Navi Mumbai and Mumbai.

The AFC President said: India 2022 promises to be another spectacular celebration of the women’s game throughout the Continent. Together with the LOC, we are confident that the upcoming edition will showcase the resolve of the Asian football family towards staging a truly memorable tournament.

Our Goal for All, demonstrates the unity and the collective effort of the Asian football family to create a brighter future for women’s football by staging a world-class spectacle that will leave a legacy in the women’s game for many years to come.

The AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ belongs to every woman and football lover across the Continent. It stands for the unified efforts of all stakeholders in creating a bright future for women’s football that keeps encompassing unchartered ground.”

12 teams – four more than previous editions – will climb the ladder to the AFC Women’s Cup India 2022. The teams participating include reigning champions Japan, the 2018 runners-up Australia, third-placed China PR and finally the hosts India.

Joining them emphatically will be the Korea Republic, Indonesia, Thailand, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Philippines and Vietnam. The teams will follow a thrilling AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ Qualifiers. Two more teams are due to qualify later in October.

However, there is more that adds to the exhilaration of the competition. The top five teams will be entitled to play in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand 2023.
