AIFF rejects appeal of Kerala Blasters and their coach

Kerala Blasters FC’s appeal against the Rs 4 crore fine levied on them for misbehaviour. And abandoning their match against Bengaluru FC in the Hero Indian Super League play-offs on March 3, 2023,. It was denied from the AIFF Appeal Committee. Moreover, Akshay Jaitly chaired it. Ivan Vukomanovic’s appeal against the Rs 5 lakh punishment and 10-game suspension he received was also denied by the committee. The Appeal Committee upheld the Disciplinary Committee’s earlier judgements in both cases.

Kerala Blasters and the coach have two weeks to pay their respective fines.

The Disciplinary Committee had also specified in its initial ruling on March 31, 2023. That the club and the coach needed to publicly apologise. Failing which the penalty would climb to Rs 6 crore and Rs 10 lakh, respectively.

Kerala Blasters on fine

The club had urged for leniency with regard to the fine in its appeal. And they request it to be lower to the absolute minimum for forfeiting the game. According to Vukomanovic’s request, the request Committee should completely overturn the punishment and the ban.

The Appeal Committee determined on June 2, 2023, “:…the appeal of the appellant team is denied and that Kerala Blasters FC is instruct to pay the fine of Rs. 4 crore imposed by the Disciplinary Committee,” in its ruling.

The Appeal Committee stated the following regarding Ivan Vukomanovic’s appeal: “…this Committee holds that the appeal of the Appellant Coach is denied and that Mr. Ivan Vukomanovic is instructed to pay the fine of Rs. 5 lakh and serve the suspension for 10 matches and the ban from being a part of the team dressing room and team bench, irrespective of the team he is contracted with. Any match for which such suspension and ban have already been served shall count towards compliance with this decision.”
