Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana ready for Premier League move?

Andre Onana, another star from the Eredivisie wants to join the Premier League, and big names are already linked for the future prospect.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper Andre Onana was looking for a move away from the Dutch side Ajax FC in the summer transfer window. However, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur both looked elsewhere. Chelsea ended up with Edouard Mendy from Rennes and Spurs signed Joe Hart as a replacement goalkeeper for Hugo Lloris.

Cameroon International has consistently been one of the best goalkeepers in the World. Andre Onana also played an important role in Ajax’s splendid run in the Champions League in the 2018/19 season where they reached the semi-finals. Ajax couldn’t replicate their 18/19 form in the 19/20 UCL season but Andre Onana was still the best goalkeeper in the UCL based on his performances.

After seeing teammates Hakim Ziyech and Donny Van De Beek moved to Premier League teams, Andre Onana wants to leave the Netherlands again.

Priced at a mere £40-50 million, Andre Onana will definitely join a Premier League side by the end of the season. However, his dream move would be to Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur.

All claims must be backed by statistics and numbers, otherwise its just talk.

Andre Onana has kept 6 cleansheets in 10 games this Eredivisie season. He also has conceded only 5 goals.

In the 19/20 season, Onana conceded only 18 goals in 24 games in the League while keeping 8 cleansheets. He also kept 5 cleansheets in 10 UCL games.

Andre Onana was instrumental in Ajax’s 2018/19 season. He kept 15 cleansheets in 33 games in the League. In the Champions League, he kept 7 cleansheets in 18 games.

Chelsea have suffered from poor goalkeeping for the last 2 seasons. From Kepa Arrizabalaga punching balls into his own net to the Legend Petr Cech getting back onto the team sheet, Chelsea have seen it all. However, they look fine with the new signing Edouard Mendy keeping 8 cleansheets in 11 games.

The signing of Edouard Mendy might seem like a final stance on their goalkeeping issue. But Chelsea are still looking towards the Cameroonian. Signing Onana will definitely be a long term solution for their issues.

Tottenham Hotspur stuck with their Captain Hugo Lloris for the 2020/21 season. However, neither Spurs nor Lloris is keen on extending the contract which ends in 2022. The ever reliant Hugo Lloris will leave after multiple World-Class seasons for the Lilywhites.

This Hugo Lloris sized hole can’t be filled by a normal goalkeeper. This is a job for Ajax number 1.

If Spurs manage to sign Onana, they can slowly ease Hugo Lloris off of his duties while still letting the Cameroonian settle into the Premier League.
