Andrea Sottil: New Coach of Udinese

Rangers and Frankfurt

Seria A side Udinese have appointed Andrea Sottil as their new head coach. The former “I Bianconeri” has taken command till the end of the 2022-23 season with an option to extend for another season. Sottil was a former player of Udinese who proved to be instrumental at times.

Sottil before taking up the new role at Udinese was the head coach of Ascoli. Impressive results with the team with not much quality got his side back to Serie B.

Sottil and his way back home

Udinese has finished 12th this season and hasn’t won much in the top tier. The club has been unable to achieve stability & over time it has seen its time in all three tiers of the Italian league. Sottil is one of Udinese’s own blood and is brought in to bring stability and elevate the standards of the first-team squad.

Udinese’s job will be the first top-tier job for Sottil. The 48-year-old replaces Gabriele Cioffi, who took over as caretaker in December. Cioffi was successful to beat the relegation battle but was unable to deliver a top-tier finish for the I Bianconeri.

Speculations have surrounded Cioffi with a move to Verona especially when Verona officially confirms that Igor Tudor will be leaving his post. The board of Udinese didn’t renew his contract and allowed him to leave.

The return to Udinese must have freshened up a lot of memories. Sottil represented the I Bianconeri’s as a defender from the year 1999-to 2003 making 115 appearances. He also scored seven goals and was instrumental in the club’s historic win of the Intertoto Cup.

Riccardo Sottil who plays as an attacking winger for Fiorentina is the son of Andrea Sottil. Last year he completed a 2.2 million move back to Fiorentina from Cagliari. He joined the attacking trio Fiorentina which included the likes of González and Vlahović. Fiorentina was enjoying great form until the transfer of Vlahovic to Juventus and since then things started going downhill.
