Ansu Fati is considered of the finest youth talents from Spain. He has been on the Catalans side for 10 years and is a product of Barcelona’s infamous La Masia. He scored 22 goals and 9 assists in his overall 78 appearances for the Spanish giants. However, in a recent interview, Ansu Fati revealed he was close to joining Real Madrid before joining La Masia.
Fati confirmed about his trial done with Real Madrid and expected to join their youth academy. But due to problems with adequate residence facilities, he and his father chose to move to Barcelona.
WHAT ANSU FATI SAID IN THE INTERVIEW
Fati recently spoke to France Football and revealed:
“Before I signed for Barça, I had a trial at Real Madrid. At that time, the club didn’t have a residence to accommodate its young players. So, with my father, we decided that Barça was the best option, with La Masia.”
Ansu Fati played for Sevilla’s youth academy before his arrival at Nou Camp in 2012. His trial with Real Madrid is expected to happen even before his Sevilla days. According to some reports, the Spanish youngster even played a few matches for Real Madrid’s youth team.
Currently, Ansu Fati is struggling to get into the starting lineup under Xavi. He is often called a substitute for Dembele and Raphinha who are clear favorites to start. Fati will surely like to get more game time and secure his place in the starting XI. Ferran Torres also sometimes gets subbed in place of him since Barca has lots of attacking options from the flank. Fati previously suffered injuries that hamper his game time even further. He should thrive to keep his fitness in check.
Barcelona is currently at the top of the league table and will focus on retaining that spot until the end of the season.
