Arsenal FC are having a very quiet transfer market currently. The Premier League runner ups have only done one activity in the current market. However, it is still not a new signing. The club has converted David Raya’s stay from loan to permanent. The Gunners are linked with many moves both ways. Some of the existing players are close to leave the Emirates stadium. One of those is Arsenal’s academy product. According to recent he is ready to leave Arsenal and has agreed personal terms with Olympique Marseille.
Gunners prepared to sell Nketiah
Edward Nketiah joined Arsenal academy in 2015 from Chelsea academy. Ever since he has been with Gunners although he spent one season on loan to Leeds United. Nketiah has made 168 appearances across all competitions for Gunners. He has scored 38 goals along with providing 6 assists. Nketiah made his debut under Arsenal’s legendary coach Arsene Wenger. However due to his inconsistency in scoring, his time seems to be up at Emirates.
Nketiah made 37 appearances for Arsenal in 2023/24 season. However he was only able to find the back of the net 6 times. Nketiah’s striking partner Gabriel Jesus has also been inconsistent causing problems to Mikel Arteta. Arteta was forced to use Kai Havertz as his first choice striker. Fortunately using Havertz as a striker paid off. The German international scored 13 goals along with providing 7 assists in 2023/24 Premier League season.
However Arteta can’t solely rely on Kai Havertz for another season. If Gunners want to win the League they need a proper striker. The clubs needs to balance the financial books too and show profits. Arsenal are ready to sell Eddie Nketiah and are demanding £50 million for him. The money earned with his sale will be counted as pure profit as Eddie is Arsenal’s academy product.
Arsenal striker agrees personal terms with Marseille
According to HITC, Eddie Nketiah has agreed personal terms with French club Olympique Marseille. However the French giants are not willing to pay £50 million. On the other hand, Arsenal have made it clear that they will only sell Nketiah if the interested club is willing to pay their demanded price.
Both the clubs are discussing over the suitable transfer fee. The reports suggest that the fee will be more than £35 million. Arsenal are close to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. The club is also linked with some top strikers across the Europe. Profit earned from Nketiah’s sale will help the club by easing the transfer process.
Marseille making big moves
While all the clubs are having low transfer activity, Marseille are operating very fast. The French club has made Roberto De Zerbi their new manager. Marseille have missed all the European competitions for the 2024/25 season. Hence they made a change in the management. The club will be looking to win their Ligue 1 title for the first time since 2010.
Roberto De Zerbi has been very busy in this transfer window. The club has already made four signings. Marseille completed the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Tottenham yesterday. They have also brought Mason Greenwood from Manchester United and Ismael Kone from Watford. While these three will arrive from England, Lilian Brassier will be joining Marseille from Brest on loan.
Marseille’s striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club after one season. The former Arsenal striker scored 30 goals along with providing 11 assists in 51 appearances for Marseille. The French giants are hoping to replace Aubameyang with another Arsenal striker who is way more younger. It would be interesting to see if Gunners agree for a fee lower than £50 million for Nketiah.
