Arsenal and their potential striker candidates in the window

Arsenal have been pretty quite throughout this transfer window. They have only done 2 signings and out of them one was making David Raya’s loan deal permanent. The other player they brought in is Riccardo Calafiori to further boost their defensive area.

The gunners are still interested to sign a midfielder and have been linked with Mikel Mareno for some time too. However, in the attacking department, there seems to be no such major movements. Even with Victor Osimhen, Arsenal have backed out because of the transfer fee. Napoli are asking price near of Osimhen release clause i.e €130 million.

Arsenal have been linked Viktor Gyokeres and they are also closely monitoring Julian Alvarez’s situation. They may sign a new attacker but they need to act quickly.

the striker dilemma at Arsenal

It was reported that Arsenal would be spending a huge chunk on transfer budget on a prolific striker. However, as of now no action has been taken by the club to do so.

They spent most of their time in the transfer market to secure the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. The another transfer update in Gunner’s case is that Marino has agreed the personal terms. However, Arsenal are still yet to make a formal bid for the player.

Once Arsenal can complete the signing of Marino, they may finally shift focus to securing a striker. Osimhen who was linked for a quite long time does not seem a reality right now. His transfer fee is too much for Arsenal and they may stay away from spending too much on one player.

Apart from the transfer fee, there is also a big concern with Osimhen. The Nigerian player has till now missed 70 games because of the injuries. His injury record can be a concern and may divert Arsenal to another target.

The latest name to get linked to Arsenal is from one premier league team only. Julian Alvarez has reportedly been looking a way out from Manchester City for some game time. The surprise target for the player that has emerged are Arsenal. Although it does not seem possible that Manchester City will let a rival team get a player like Julian Alvarez.

The Julian Alvarez situation

Arsenal were the direct competitor for the premier league title last season. Pep’s team had to battle till the last matchday as they only secured the title with mere 2 points. Guardiola would surely want to avoid strengthen the rivals by giving them a quality striker.

Furthermore, Atletico Madrid are in serious advance negotiations to sign the Argentine. They have also submitted the official proposal of €75m. Manchester City’s response is awaited on that offer.

So ultimately the remaining and the most sensible choice left for Arsenal is Gyokeres. He has been exceptional for Sporting Lisbon last season. He provided 15 assists and scored 43 goals in 53 matches throughout the season. There was a minor knee injury concern but he returned back from it and now its not an issue.

Sporting Lisbon has set the release clause at €100 million for the player. They would be only considering an offer if the offered fee is around that range. Arsenal may opt for going for a long term payment structure to get this deal through.

Gunners in dire need for a new no9?

Arsenal have struggled a lot with their no9 threat in the attacking position. Even last season when the whole team was performing exceptionally well, there were concerns regarding the striker role. In the current scenario of market, not many ideal options are available.

Hence the asking price for the players are way too much. Arsenal may have to spend a huge amount and gamble it if they want a quality player as their no9.
