This weekend in the Premier League we have the north london derby. Both teams have not had the best of the starts with Tottenham having the worst of the two teams. Spurs sit 10th in the table with a win, a draw and a loss while Arsenal are 4th with 7 points on board. Arsenal will miss out some major names for the blockbuster clash while, their rivals set to miss a star summer signing. More on the latesT injury updates and absentees.
ARSENAL TEAM NEWS ( ARSENAL VS SPURS )
Arsenal are surely one of the major title contenders for the season along with Liverpool. They have come close in the past couple of seasons and will be eyeing for the major prize this year. Gunners have also spent accordingly in the transfer market bringing in major additions such as Riccardo Calafiori, Raheem Sterling and Mikel Marino.
Anyway they have not made the perfect start they were hoping for. Two wins against Wolves and Crystal Palace ensured a good start but in the last game they had dropped points against Brighton and Hove Albion at home. It was a frustrating day for the home side as their star man Declan Rice was controversially sent off by referee Chris Kavanagh. There were a lot of criticism for that decision with Mikel Arteta once again hitting out at the inconsistency in referal decisions. With both of their possible title challengers Man City and Liverpool sitting first and second, Arteta and co would like to quickly turn their fortunes around. This North London Derby at Tottenham Hotspurs stadium would be the first real challenge for Arsenal this season.
But the Gunners are missing some big names for the crunch clash. Declan Rice will miss the match after the afore mentioned sending off. While they lost both Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori during the International break. Odegaard was involved in a crunch tackle with Christoph Baumgartner of Austria and was forced off the pitch. He is set to be sidlined for at least three weeks as per the reports from BBC Sports.
Calafiori limped off the pitch after a clash with Ousmane Dembele during Italy’s match against France. On the other hand new 32 million pounds signing Mikel Merino is set to be sidelined for significant amout fo time after a training injury.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS TEAM NEWS ( ARSENAL VS SPURS )
Tottenham Hotspurs have had the worst start between the two with only one win in the first three matches. The other two endingin a draw and a lose. Last time out in the Premier League, they went down to a 2-1 lose to Newcastle United. Like their rivals Arsenal, Tottenham also want to turn things around and charge up some confidence among the squad. What better than a North London Derby clash with Arsenal? A win on sunday would be great for Postecoglu and his team.
They were dominant in all departments against Newcastle but couldn’t make their chances count. This would be something crucial if they want to win on sunday. Spurs can also argue that they had both of their star strikers Richarlison and Dominic Solanke missing the match up against Newcastle.
As per the reports there are a few names who are in doubt for the derby match. Dutch defender Micky Van de Ven missed out their encounter with Newcastle after sustaining a knee injury against Everton. He was also dropped from the Netherlands national team for the Nations League. There is no official report but according to Postercoglu he was close to play against Newcastle so can play on sunday. Alike Van de Ven, their star signing Dominic Solanke was also close to play against Newcastle but needs more care as per the manager. So we are not certain if we can see him play against Arsenal. But Solanke will be a huge boost for Spurs with Richarlison expected to be out for a significant amount of time. Yves Bissouma also expected to miss out on the derby match after sustaining an injury during the International break.
