Arsenal and Tottenham to battle for the starlet of Roma

Camavinga

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Roma youngster Ebrima Darboe in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old midfielder made his professional debut for the club on 2 May 2021, coming off the bench for the final ten minutes of Roma’s 0–2 defeat against Sampdoria. He has been involved in 4 Serie A games this season under Paulo Fonseca and started three of those games.

The young midfielder has shown his quality in those games. However, the Giallorossi have appointed new manager José Mourinho who does not fancy the younger players and it will be a better option for Darboe to play football away from Stadio Olimpico next season for his development.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing the youngster of Roma Ebrima Darboe

The current contract of the Gambian will end in June 2023. So, if Roma decide to sell Darboe this summer then they might get a pretty good fee to fund their transfer budget.

Can Arsenal or Tottenham land Darboe from Roma this summer?

According to Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation of Ebrima Darboe with great interest. Especially Arsenal who always look to bring young talents at the club and Darboe will be perfect for that.

However, Roma don’t want to sell their youngster unless a sensational offer arrives, as they believe in the potential of Darboe and want to see the teenager flourish under legendary manager José Mourinho.

Ebrima Darboe born in Bakoteh, a district of Serekunda in The Gambia. He left his birth country aged 14, alone, arriving in Libya, before sailing to Sicily, Italy, where he arrived as a refugee after a six-month journey.

The midfielder joined Roma in summer 2017, making his primavera debut for the youth team in January 2019. Darboe signed his first professional contract with Roma the following July, having just turned eighteen.

It has been a pretty romantic journey for a teenager from the refugee camp to playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and showing great quality.

However, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Gambian midfielder. Will he stay at Roma and try to break into the starting eleven under José Mourinho or go to either one between Arsenal or Tottenham in the upcoming summer transfer window? Only the future will tell that.
