Arsenal are leading the race for FC Barcelona goalkeeper Neto

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are leading the race for signing Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper Neto this summer. The Gunners are interested in the Brazilian since January, as they offered to sign him in the winter transfer window. But because of some reasons, the deal didn’t materialize following which Neto stayed in Barcelona.

Neto started his career with the Brazilian team Athletico Paranaense in 2011, following which he went to play at Italy. The Brazilian spend seven years of his career in Serie A, playing for Fiorentina and Juventus. Neto took another challenge in his career as he transferred to Spain signing for Valencia in 2017. After appearing 80 times for Valencia, the Brazilian was signed by the La Liga giants Barcelona in 2019.

But, the transfer to Barcelona has been proven to be the worst decision for the shot-stopper. Neto has been seen as a second-choice goalkeeper at Barcelona while being an understudy to Marc ter Stegen. In his two years’ stay at Camp Nou, the Brazilian has been called only 17 times by his managers.

Neto still has two years left in his contract at Barcelona, but the club has listed him for a transfer this summer. While the stopper has also desired to leave Camp Nou this summer due to less game time for the past seasons. Following Neto’s views Arsenal are first in the line to sign the goalkeeper for the next season.

Arsenal are first in the line for signing Neto this summer

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will have a busy summer following their poor form last season. Currently, the gunners are looking for a goalkeeper in the transfer window, due to Bernd Leno’s poor performance between the sticks.

The gunners had been facing the decision for the goalkeeping position since last summer. The club had let their first-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez leave last season for Aston Villa. Following which Arteta was left with the choice of Bernd Leno between the sticks. And the Gunners boss is now regretting the decision of letting Martinez leave after Leno’s repetitive blunder in the goal last season.

After Leno’s poor form Arsenal were forced to sign Brighton’s Mat Ryan in the January transfer window. But that was a temporary solution to that issue. Arteta is now looking for a player who can permanently replace the German stopper next season. And it seems Arsenal have found their target as they have contacted Barcelona for signing Neto.

Arsenal tried to sign Neto back in January but the deal fell off due to some reason. But the gunners are now positive about signing the Brazilian this summer. It is believed that Barcelona will want at least 16 million for letting stopper leave this summer. But Arsenal may sign the player at a less price if the negotiations go right.

However, Arteta needs to hurry on his decision as Everton and AS Roma are also in the line to secure the services of the Brazilian. So, let’s wait and see if Arsenal can land their long-targeted goalkeeper Neto this summer.
