According to the reports, the Gunners are concerned about the training ground performances of Raheem Sterling. The Englishman was brought into the squad earlier this summer from rival side Chelsea. He left the West London club to join the North London club on a season long deal. As Blues new manager Enzo Maresca excluded the winger from his plans.
Sterling had no other options but to leave the club during the summer. And Arsenal managed reach an agreement with the Blues on the deadline day. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta brought the winger to manage the work overload between the players. And he definitely thought that, the inclusion of such a experienced player like Raheem Sterling will help them to win trophies.
Arsenal worried about the performance of Raheem Sterling
However, since joining the club Sterling has only managed to feature 8 times. Out of which only 4 were as starters. In the last 5 games, the 29-year-old’s appearance came against Preston in the EFL cup. He didn’t even manage to come off the bench against Liverpool, Newscastle and Inter.
According to the former Man United scout Mick Brown, manager Arteta is slowly losing his faith on the English winger. As the 29-year-old has failed to keep up to his level during the training sessions. And that is the reason why Raheem Sterling isn’t getting enough minutes, as the Spaniard demands a lot from his players.
Brown said to Football Insider,
“We know Arteta demands a certain level from his players and isn’t scared to leave them out if they aren’t meeting his expectations. Even with their injuries and issues up front, he’s hardly played aside from cup games. They’ve been in need of a consistent winger, and he still can’t get a game at the moment.”
If Raheem Sterling didn’t manage to find his touch on time, then things will get harder for him after the season ends. As Chelsea will not keep him at the club and top European clubs will also not consider to bring in an out of form winger into their side.
