Arsenal boss hints on using his summer signing as an attacker

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has hinted on using one of his summer signing as attacker. He did that some days ago and the player responded very well in the new role assigned to him.

Arteta has been experiencing shortage in the final third. Most of his attackers are injured at the moment. In addition, they were unable to sign new players in summer 2024. Infact, they even didn’t make any new additions in January either.

Gunners are currently without Jesus, Saka and Havertz. This is causing a lot of trouble in the final third. As a result, the North London club has dropped multiple points which has taken them away from the Premier League title.

Due to not making any new signings, Arteta will need to find solutions from his current squad itself. He recently used Mikel Merino as attacker and has now admitted that he might use him once again in that position this season.

“Yes, in relation to the opposition and the options we have, and then what the team generates as well. Attacking players depend a lot on what the team is generating, the chemistry, the fluidity, the areas we are hitting” – Arteta on using Mikel Merino as attacker via DailyAFC.

Mikel Merino came on as a substitute against Leicester City. He replaced Raheem Sterling who was playing as left winger. Merino was able to have an instant impact as he scored not once but twice.

Arsenal need to learn from their mistakes as soon as possible

Arsenal need to learn from their mistakes as soon as possible. They should be keen to improve their attacking unit this summer. As of now, they are said to sign a striker and a winger. The club should not hesitate on signing a world-class striker as he can give them lead in the title race. In addition, the club should focus on having a proper depth.
