Arsenal defender William Saliba‘s future is in thin air. The 21-year-old joined the Gunners in 2019 following a €27 million. At first, the youngster did find trouble settling in the squad following which he was loaned out to Marseille. The Frenchman was Ligue 1’s young player of the year award and was also included in the division’s Team of the year.
Marseille are looking to re-sign Saliba in this window. Arsenal, however, are adamant about keeping the young central defender at the club. The Gunners are offering to want Saliba to pen down as the current deal expires in 2024. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Mikel Arteta wants to have the services of the Frenchman available at his disposal and have already given his ‘ NO ‘ for William’s Departure.
Blessed with incredible pace, strength, and positioning, Saliba has been a standout defender in Europe who has been linked with various clubs. Mikel Arteta’s team has taken a new step in Europe and will be playing Europa League football next season and will need quality squad depth if need to perform in all competitions next season.
Arsenal’s Hunt for Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez
Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez has been on the radar of Mikel Arteta’s sporting management for a long time now. The versatility that Martinez offers has impressed the coaching staff of Arsenal who have submitted a bid for the Argentine. Their opening bid, however, has been reportedly rejected by the Dutch side who are expecting an offer in the range of €50 million to let Martinez go.
The left-footed central defender has attracted high interest all through Europe. An excellent passer of the ball and one of the best ball-playing CB’s in the world, the Argentinian would fit right into Arteta’s side having the ability to also play as left back. Arsenal are pushing to sign the defender and Saliba’s situation may also take a U-turn if Martinez comes.
