Arsenal are looking to part ways with their two defensive midfielders Thomas Partey and Jorginho in the next summer window. The duo’s contract is coming to an end. The Gunners have set plans to release them and are already looking for a replacement.
Their season so far has been somewhat good this campaign. They have registered some good wins but also faced some shock defeats. Bournemouth and Newcastle United defeated the Gunners which was a shock.
Italian giants Inter Milan ended their unbeaten streak this season. The Serie A giants registered a slim victory against the English club and won the game 1-0. Jorginho was a part of Arteta’s squad but rarely made an impact whereas Thomas Partey was unused.
This defeat meant that Arsenal are now 5 games without a win. The result was disappointing for the team which has raised serious questions on Arsenal’s lineup. The management squad will want to make some fresh changes to the squad.
Partey and Jorginho are not cheap in Arsenal’s pocket. The duo are earning a combined amount of 310,000 euros. A better performance is expected from the duo at this high level and with a big club like Arsenal.
The London club will look to make deals for both the defensive midfielder for the next summer transfer window. Gunners will look to add more depth in the defence and more time and resources to players like Mikel Merino.
Will Arteta let go of the Arsenal duo?
Thomas Partey has been with the Gunners for a significant time. The Englishman and the Italian have made important contributions to the team but have been just average recently. The team has made plans to part ways with them in the next transfer window.
Jorginho is a Chelsea product who made his way to Emirates Stadium in 2023 for a price tag of 12 million euros. He has made a total of 59 appearances for the Gunners. A one-year extension is also part of the Italian’s contract.
Partey who has been with Arsenal for four years has made more than 120 appearances for the North London giants. The Englishman was signed by Arsenal in 2020 for 43 million euros from Atletico Madrid. He has been a clinical part of the manager’s tactics but has struggled to get in form this season.
TalkSport Pundit Alan Brazil has suggested that the Gunners should consider getting rid of Partey and Jorginho. In a conversation with TalkSport, he said-
” I personally would get rid of, Partey and Jorginho. I don’t think they are good enough to win the Premier League”.
The duo’s contract are expiring by the end of this season. It is unlikely that Arsenal will be keen on extending their contract post this season. A fresh start will be one thing that will be extremely beneficial for the players.
Thomas Partey is likely to get an offer like Jorginho
Arsenal is planning to construct a new deal for their defensive midfielder Thomas Partey. The player is likely to get a contract extension like his teammate Jorginho. He is part of Arteta’s plan but has been just ok with his performance.
There were chances that Partey was about to leave the club last season. The Ghanaian almost left the team when Mikel Merino was signed by Real Sociedad. Merino has a much more significant performance than the English midfielder.
The 31-year-old Thomas was impressive against the table toppers Liverpool. He won almost every duel with the Red’s Luis Diaz. The Gunners are considering preparing a contract extension for the defensive midfielder depending on his performance.
A meeting is on its way to being set up to decide the future of Thomas Partey and Jorginho. There has been interest from Galatasaray for Jorginho while Partey is still seeking a big offer. He currently is set with Arsenal till 2025.
