Arsenal contemplating the Spanish talent as a replacement for Ramsdale

After Aaron Ramsdale’s departure, the Gunners are considering to bring in 23 year old Spanish sensation Joan Garcia from Espanyol. Since David Raya’s arrival, his strong performances have secured him a spot as the starting goalkeeper for the Gunners, pushing Ramsdale to the role of second choice.

To continue as a starter Ramsdale had to leave Arsenal to sign for Southampton for a fee of £25m. Now Arsenal will try to bring in a backup goalkeeper in the final days of the transfer window.

The Gunners have been monitoring the Espanyol goalkeeper since the opening of the summer transfer window. Now the departure of Ramsdale have solidified the decision to sign the Spanish goalkeeper.

Arsenal have had a great transfer window so far as they have managed to sign Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino from Italy and Spain respectively after their great performance in the Euros for their countries.

The addition of a young talented goalkeeper in this window can really be valuable for them as they are going play in 4 to 5 different competitions this season.

Will Espanyol sell Joan?

As per Mundo Deportivo the Gunners want to sign Joan Garcia no matter what. Arsenal have reportedly submitted a formal offer to the representatives of the player, Juanma López and Andy Bara. The player has agreed to the personal terms with Arsenal.

The release clause of Joan set by Espanyol is €30m where as Arsenal’s offer is believed to be around €20m, including bonuses. Arsenal will be finding it difficult to carry on the talks as the offered money is way less than the release clause.

Espanyol have been very clear since the begining by stating, if any club wants to sign Garcia they have to pay the release clause. The Spanish club thinks of Joan as a valuable asset for their club so they do not want to sell him for less than €30m.

Ramsdale’s sudden departure have created a urgency in the Arsenal camp to sign the 23 year old spanish goalie. The Gunners have been desperate to sign him.

The espanyol talent made his professional debut in January 2022, playing 23 league matches in total where he pulled off some heroic performances.

The spaniard had a great season with Espanyol in the segunda division finishing 4th in the league leading to a promotion to Laliga along with the Olympic Gold medal in Paris.

Important final day for Arsenal in the transfer window

Not only a goalkeeper, Arsenal could also look for attacking options as after Eddie Nketiah’s departure to Crystal Palace, Reiss Nelson also could be considering a move away from the Emirates.

Finishing 2nd in the Premier league and reaching the UCL quarter-finals last season, Arteta’s Arsenal is really hungry to grab a silverware this season.

Though Arsenal looks pretty solid with the new reinforcements in midfield and defence, as of now they are going to compete in a long season with just 5 attackers and 2 goalkeepers.

So Arsenal will be looking to utilize the final day of the transfer window with full strength. While the chances of siging a new forward seems too low but the Gunners will be really looking for a 2nd choice goalkeeper to pair up with the Spanish international David Raya.

Joan Garcia being the first priority for Arsenal, the Gunners will try to sign him in the last day of transfer window. But if the negotiation fails, Arsenal also have a backup plan to sign the Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto.

The 35 year old brazilian is currently linked with Arsenal because Chelsea’s Kepa have joined Bournemouth on a 2 year loan deal.

It will be interesting to see whom Arsenal manages to sign at last.
