Arsenal are eyeing two former players for the Sporting Director role. As per the reports, the talks have already held with the pair. Along with these two, there are several other candidates being monitored.
Edu Gasper was the first ever sporting director at the North London club. His exit on monday was a big surprise for everyone including Mikel Arteta. The Brazilian was key asset for Arsenal’s success in recent years.
Edu played a key role in making Arsenal great once again and challenge for Premier League title. He will now work for multi club group owned by Evangelos Marinakis. One if the club owned by group is Nottingham Forest.
Gunners have now big task to replace Edu but they are said to take their time. Jason Ayto is said to step up to fill the shoes for now. He is too one of the candidates up for permanent role. West Ham technical director Tim Steidten is another candidate in the running.

Now as per Foot Mercato, Gunners have held talks with Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky. The duo played together back in the days and were able to win FA Cup in 2014. It is also said that Gunners are happy with the progress made by duo after retiring from football.
Firstly about Mertesacker, he became the head of Arsenal academy in 2018. In addition, he also served as interim assistant to Freddie Ljungberg. On the other hand, Rosicky is already a sporting director at Sparta Prague. Rosicky started and ended his career at Sparta Prague.
Despite holding talks, Gunners are still far away from making a final decision. It has been reported that they are ready to wait for 6 months before taking decision. Mikel Arteta will play a huge part in process along with other club officials.
