Arsenal have the chance to sign Chelsea’s winger Raheem Sterling

Arsenal have officially started negotiations with Chelsea to sign their English winger Raheem Sterling.

The 29-year-old is now being linked to another Premier League club mainly to revive his club and national career. The England winger has been pretty much left out of the playing squad. Chelsea has been one of the most active clubs in the summer, signing 8 new signings. Raheem’s time at Stanford Bridge was seemingly at an end when manager Enzo Maresca noted his absence in the opening game against his former club Manchester City.

City beat Chelsea in their opening game with a scorecard of 2-0.

Chelsea looking to offload Sterling’s high wages, Arsenal interested

One of the major reasons for the release of the Sterling is his wage cap of 35,000 euros a week.

Chelsea is also open to a loan deal as Sterling still has three years remaining on his contract.

Arsenal seem to be most keen to make a move on Sterling

Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta has been especially interested in making a deal with Chelsea in regard to Raheem Sterling. A move to the Emirates Stadium could reunite this duo as the duo worked together in Manchester City for 3 years and share a strong bond. Arteta has always been an admirer of Raheem’s game and has hopes that the winger could prove to be essential in Arsenal’s attacking lineup.

Tension between Enzo and Sterling

Sterling joined Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2022 for 47.5 million euros. He also has accumulated 18 goals and 12 assists in 81 appearances.

Raheem was a regular inclusion in the squad when Chelsea was under the supervision of Mauricio Pochettino last season.

It is quite clear that this will not be the case under the new manager Enzo Maresca. The squad has fresh recruits such as Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, Mark Guiu, and Kiernan Dewsbury Hall.

“The ones who are not involved are the players who will not be involved, and they are not getting any minutes if they stay.”

“I am not saying that Raheem is a bad player, but every manager has a different idea and he is not the type of winger he likes. That says nothing about Raheem. The history and the numbers speak for Raheem.” said Maresca in an interview as per Goal.com.

How Sterling could make an impact in Arteta’s Gunners

Sterling often could mould his game according to the manager’s requirements.

His dribbling and attacking threat made him a formidable opponent at Liverpool before improving his ball positioning and off-ball game awareness at Manchester City.

As a Chelsea winger, he was still an on-ball threat but there were flaws in his finishing in the time with the Blues.

One of the best seasons for Raheem Sterling was in Manchester City in which he was under the wing of Mikel Arteta.

Which was a total of 55 goals across 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020 seasons.

Arteta will most likely be interested in Sterling but it would require the English winger to change his gameplay.

The addition of Raheem Sterling to Arsenal would also lead to an increase in competition among the Gunners, with added competition to the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Riccardo Caliofori.

This setup would also mean that Leandro Trossard will have to play the role of a false as he has done on some occasions.

Raheem Sterling is quite a flexible player and can work centrally too.

Sterling’s goals and ambitions

One of the primary goals for Sterling is to get back into the England setup. The winger has even declined offers from Saudi Arabia because he believed that would be detrimental to his chances of achieving his place in the squad.

However, his move on transfer deadline day may be an ideal chance for Raheem Sterling to revive his career.
