Arsenal have been handed a major boost in the pursuit of Spanish star. The player’s current club is now ready to part ways with him and hence the North London club can finally add him to their squad this summer.
The star in question here is Joan Garcia of Espanyol. Gunners wanted to sign Garcia in the summer 2024 window. The 23 year old was also ready to join the North London club. However, the deal ended in failure and Garcia had to stay with Espanyol.
Gunners wanted to make Garcia backup for Davia Raya. Theg wanted him to compete with his compatriot for the starting position. Hence, they made an offer worth €20 million to sign him. But, Espanyol rejected the offer.
Garcia had a €25 million release clause in his contract. Before Gunners can make any new offer, the keeper’s release clause rose even further. His release clause became €30 million and Espanyol were unwilling to negotiate below that price.
Despite failing to sign to sign him last summer, Gunners are still keen to land Garcia. Neto is set to leave after the end of the season. This will open up space for backup keeper. Earlier, Arsenal had talks with Garcia’s agent while on trip at Spain for UCL clash.

Gunners have been handed a major boost in the pursuit of Garcia. Espanyol sporting director Fran Garagarza has reported that they are open for negotiations. In addition, he said that they can agree the deal for Garcia for price lower than his release clause this summer.
“In the summer, with Arsenal’s call in the last week, we were forced to reject it. But if a club comes on June 14 with an offer close to the clause, combining fixed and variable payments, Espanyol will not say no. We cannot say no” – Garagarza speaking to Pericos Marca.
Garagaza also said that they can part ways with Garcia for offer less than his release clause. He said that a respectful offer close to release clause will be accepted by them in summer window.
