Arsenal handed major twist in pursuit of young winger

Gunners have been handed a major twist in the pursuit of 22 year old winger. There have been mixed reports about the player’s future which makes Arsenal fans confused about the situation.

The star in question here is Nico Williams of Athletic Club. The 22 year old first appeared on Arsenal’s radar in summer 2024. He had an amazing Euro 2024 campaign with Spain. He helped his country to win the trophy by scoring in the final against England.

Gunners tried to sign Williams last summer but failed to do so. The 22 year old also had interest from Barcelona who were said to be keen to pair him with Lamine Yamal. But, none clubs were able to step up their interest resulting in Williams staying at Athletic Club.

Williams is now said to be open to move away from Athletic this summer. He is very heavily linked with Gunners who will need to pay €58 million. But, the latest reports have once again caused a lot of confusion regarding the player’s future.

Can Arsenal land Nico Williams this summer?

Carpetas Blaugranas have reported that Williams has told Lamine Yamal that he wants to join Arsenal. Yamal and Williams have a strong bond of friendship between them. This report may come as a boost for Gunners but the next one will come as a major blow.

TBR Football have reported that Williams is still keen to joib Barcelona this summer. This keeps Arsenal fans in a guessing game of wheter their club will land Williams this summer or not.

Earlier there were reports that Barca are very happy with their attack. Raphinha has made his spot as left winger untouchable for other stars. Infact, the Spanish giants are in search of striker instead of another winger.

This gives Gunners the lead in the race. In addition, Barca may struggle to pay €58 million release clause to land Williams. Hence, Arsenal fans should be optimistic that their club will sign the 22 year old winger this summer.
