Arsenal have finished their pre-season preparations. They are now set to win the Premier League title. They will face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their first match of the season. The match is set on 17th August in the Emirates stadium. Gunners played a total of 5 matches in their pre-season preparation. Riccardo Calafiori joined the squad after signing for Arsenal. Gunners paid £39 million to Bologna. Some more stars are set to join the club. While the board is focused on signings, Mikel Arteta is focused on the first game of the season. However there are some bad injury related news for Arsenal. Two players are said to miss the match for Arsenal against Wolves.
Arsenal played five games in the pre season. They started with a draw against Bournemouth before defeating Manchester United. However they lost against Liverpool but made a strong comeback. Gunners won both of their last matches. They defeated Bayer Leverkusen by 4-1 and Lyon by 2-0. Their pre-season games went very good. However, two of their stars missed their last match of the pre-season. These players may miss out against Wolves as well. Mikel Arteta will hope that this does not happen. In addition, Arsenal fans are starting to get worried about one of the injured star.
Who will Arsenal miss against Wolves
Jurrien Timber and Fabio Vieira are the two players who missed their last match of pre-season. Timber missed almost the whole season last year. He signed for Arsenal last year for £38.5 million from Ajax. However, he was not able to get a lot of chances to play for Gunners. Timber got injured in the first match of the 2023/24 season. He had an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Nottingham Forest. Timber later made appearance in the last match of the season against Everton.
Arsenal fans are worried after hearing the recent injury news regarding Timber. He has been confirmed to have a slight foot problem. Fortunately, it is revealed that this injury is not related to his previous injuries. He missed the match against Bayer Leverkusen due to load bearing injury. His return date is not fix as of yet and he may miss out the Premier League opener as well.
On the other hand, Fabio Vieira missed the match against Lyon due to hip injury. Vieira has not been injury prone and has performed well for Gunners. However, it is still unclear if he will be in Arsenal squad against Wolves. If he is fit, Mikel Arteta will not leave him out of the squad. Vieira was one of the best players for Arsenal in the pre-season games.
How was Arsenal’s last game of the pre-season
Despite the injury news, Arsenal ended the pre-season on a winning note. They defeated Olympique Lyonnais, commonly known as Lyon by 2-0. Both of the centre-backs scored for Gunners. Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes scored the goals which were both assisted by Declan Rice. It was the first time, the new signing Riccardo Calafiori featured for Arsenal. He came as a substitute and had a very good 26 minutes on the pitch.
Declan Rice received 8.9 rating for his amazing display by FOTMOB. He was the best player for Gunners followed by both of their centre-backs. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes both received the rating of 8.2 for scoring goals. Kai Havertz started the game as striker. Gunners are looking for a new striker. However it very likely looks like Havertz will play as a striker against Wolves. Same was the case for holding midfielder where Thomas Partey started the game. Mikel Merino has not yet been signed by Gunners. However, he is said to be very close to join them soon. Gunners will hope to make a winning statement in their league opener and make their intention of winning the title clear to the opponents.
