Arsenal injury updates ahead of the international break

The Gunners have started the 2024-25 season in a very strong way. Arsenal are still unbeaten across all competitions so far this season. With these performances, their hope will be growing thinking that this is their year where they will win the Premier League.

Arsenal is currently at the 3rd position in the table, with as points as Man City(17) . They both are just trailing by 1 point, behind table toppers Liverpool. Their recent victory in the league came against Southampton, last Saturday.

It may seem things have been easy for Arsenal so far. As players like Saka, Havertz, Gabriel, Calafiori and others have been in top form this season. But only the fans and management knows how much they have been struggling from injury issues. The season only started almost 2 months ago, and the Gunners have already suffered from 5-6 major injuries along with some minor ones too.

Arsenal injury list

The Gunners can have a sigh of relief for now as some of the injured players have already recovered. They will be fully fit to play full minutes after the international break. These recovered players list consists of summer signing Mikel Merino, striker Gabriel Jesus and fullback Takehiro Tomiyasu & Jakub Kiwior.

Merino made his debut for the Gunners in the UCL against PSG last Wednesday at the second half. He also left a pretty decent impact on the pitch against the Saints when he came off the bench at the 60th minute. On the other hand Tomiyasu also made his debut appearance of the season against the Saints last weekend. Kiwior has also given some guest appearances in the last couple of matches. Gabriel started a couple of games this season but he is yet to find his touch.

But the Gunners still have some important squad players in the sidelines due to injury issues.

Martin Odegard (Arsenal captain, Mid-fielder)

Gunners captain Martin Odegard, have suffered from an ankle injury last month while he was on his national duties with Norway. He has already missed several league games and a couple of UCL games. The 25-year-old midfielder is arguably the best player of Arsenal, so his absence have naturally caused some problems on and off the pitch for the Gunners.

His return is still unknown as of now, but as things stand he will not be available until the end of October. When Arteta was asked about Odegard’s return, he replied,

“I expected him to still have a boot on and other things – he’s working hard, feeling good and pushing. It’s difficult to give a timeline.”

Oleksandr Zinchenko (Defender)

Zinchenko hasn’t played a minute so far this season due to a calf injury. But Arteta has given a positive update on his recovery. He mentioned that the Ukrainian will return after the international break in October.

“Oleksandr will probably be back after the international break, if everything goes well. He’s progressing really well.”

Jurrien Timber (Defender)

Timber was subbed off against PSG at the end of first half. Arteta did it on purpose as he didn’t want to put work overload on him as Timber has been suffering from some hamstring issues lately. The Dutch defender also missed the entire of the last season due to a knee injury. So, he is still in rehabilitation process.

Timber was checked on Friday afternoon before the game against Southampton. And Arteta decided to rest him. Timber has been one of the best players on the pitch so far for the Gunners. So, Arteta didn’t want to take any risk to loose him right now. He will be fit to play against Bournemouth after the international break.

Ben White (Defender)

White has missed the last 3 to 4 games due to some groin issues. His last appearance came against Man City at the second half, when 10 men Arsenal needed reinforcement to defend against the might Sky Blues. As per reports he will be fit to play after the end of the international break.

Kieran Tierney (Defender)

Tierney is yet to feature in a game for the Gunners this season. He has been struggling from a hamstring injury since the Euro 2024. Arteta has reported that, Tierney could be fit to play from November. He also mentioned it has been hard for the Scottish international and he is trying his very best to recover.
