Arsenal keen to sign 20 year old highly rated midfielder

Arsenal are said to have a interest in signing Carlos Baleba. Baleba currently plays for Brighton and Hove Albion as a holding midfielder. He is only 20 years old and is already a regular starter for Seagulls.

Brighton signed Baleba last summer from Lille. They paid around £23 million for the midfielder and he quickly earned his place as regular start. It was mainly because Moises Caicedo was sold by Brighton to Chelsea.

Baleba went on to play 37 for Brighton in his first year at England. He had a very impressive season and received praise from many. His former boss Roberto De Zerbi said that Baleba is perfect fit to fill the void left by Caicedo.

Baleba proved De Zerbi right and has stepped up in the boots of Caicedo. This season he has reached a new level under new boss Fabian Hurzeler. In addition to playing well he has added goals and assists this season. He has scored 2 goals and picked 2 assists in opening 10 games.

Brighton consider Baleba as an important player. They have him tied to the contract until 2028. In addition, they are also financially stable after recording record breaking sale of £158 million last year.

But, Brighton are known for their business which includes signing underrated players on low price before transforming and selling them for higher price. Hence, we may see them change their plans and sell Baleba if a suitable offer arrives.

Arsenal hold interest in signing Carlos Baleba

As per the reports from talkSPORT, Gunners hold a long-term interest in Carlos Baleba. The report further states that, Liverpool and Tottenham are also keeping tabs on the 20 year old midfielder.

Gunners may view Baleba as a long term replacement for Thomas Partey and Jorginho. Both these players are in their final year of contract as there are no signs of extension as of now. This suggests Baleba may hold a bright future at the Emirates.
