According to a report by The Athletic, Arsenal are keeping tabs on the Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak. The Gunners are interested in signing the Sweden star to be effective at the upfront in next season.
Alexander Isak rose from the youth ranks of the Sweden League team Allsvenskan. He spent two years at the club before signing for Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Isak was one of the biggest prospects in Swedish football when he joined the German side. However, he struggled to get proper game time in his first two seasons with the club.
Following which the forward was sent on loan to Willem II in 2019. And he went to score an impressive 13 goals in 16 appearances in his loan spell. But despite his impressive form, he was sold to Real Sociedad by the German club in July 2019.
The 2020-21 season has been a breakout campaign for Alexander Isak. The Swedish forward has netted 17 goals in all competitions for the La Real. That goal tally also helped him feature in the top six scorers of the La Liga. While he was also awarded the title of young player of the year in La Liga.
Following his impressive performances, some clubs are interested in signing the forward. Currently, Arsenal and Roma leading the line for the Sweden star. However, Isak has still two years left at Real Sociedad, and the club is in no hurry to sell the youngster. Following which La Real have valued Isak at a whopping price of €70 million in the transfer market.
Arsenal are seeing Isak as a viable attacking option
The Gunners had a horrible season after finishing eighth in the Premier League table. This follows with no European League spot for Arsenal in the next season. Despite this bad performance Arsenal are backing Mikel Arteta for next season and sanctioned him a decent fund for the transfers.
It is no doubt that the Gunners need to address the situation about restructuring the team in all positions. And currently, Arteta is planning to add new attacking options after their poor form in front of the goal.
Arsenal’s two attacking options Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have clearly failed this season. While Lacazette has left only one year in his contract for Arsenal. And Aubameyang is finding himself on the wrong end due to his age.
Following these issues upfront Arteta has seen Isak as a great option in front of the goal for next season. However, it might not be easy to land the Swedish player, as first because of his high price. And second, Jose Mourinho has included Isak in his plans at Roma for next season.
Currently, Isak is focusing on his Euro 2020 campaign, as he has been called up as a replacement for injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, the youngster has addressed his transfer situation and stated that he desires to play for La Real in the next season. So, let’s wait and see what the future holds for the Swedish forward.
