Arsenal lead their arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land top striker this summer. The player is favoured target of Gunners boss Mikel Arteta who tried to sign him on 2 different occasions.
The striker in question here is Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig. The Slovenian striker joined the German club in 2023 from their sister club RB Salzburg. He had an amazing season in Bundesliga which was followed by interest from top clubs across whole Europe.
Arsenal tried very hard to sign Sesko in summer 2024. But, they failed to convince the player who later decided to sign a contract extension at Leipzig. He extended his stay at Germany until 2029 last summer but was once again linked with away moves in January.
Gunners were once again linked with Sesko but Leipzig had no intention to let him leave mid-season. This again resulted in move to North London failing and striker staying at Leipzig. But, Sesko is now very likely to move away in summer as he is ready to join a top club.
Arsenal are still interested to sign Sesko in summer. They also have Isak on their radar but he will require as high as £150 million. Hence, the North London club may opt to sign Sesko but are facing competition from their arch rivals.
Arsenal lead the race to sign Sesko over Spurs
Tottenham are interested to sign Sesko as they want a major shakeup in their squad. Timo Werner is surely going to leave along with other which will open up space. But, Football Insider have reported that Gunners have lead in the race to sign Sesko.
Sesko will choose to join a club that will play Champions League football. Spurs are very far away from that and hence may lose him despite their willingness to trigger his release clause. The Slovenian can be signed for £58 million as per his new release clause this summer.
