Gunners are very likely to make big moves to land attackers in summer. They are said to sign a new striker and a new winger. The current injury crisis have made those signing an urgent matter. As a result, there are many players being linked with a move to the Emirates.
The star in question here is Nico Williams of Athletic Club. Williams is 22 years old and can play on both wings. He was Arsenal’s main target in summer 2024. But, the North London club were unable to convince him to join them.
Williams had an amazing Euro 2024 campaign with Spain. This caused other top clubs to make moves for him. But, no deal was able to progress which resulted in Williams staying at Athletic Club. But, it is very likely to change this summer.
Arsenal leading the race to sign Nico Williams
Williams is looked upon by Barcelona who want to pair him with Lamine Yamal. But, they will find it hard to pay his transfer fee. In addition, Raphinha has been in superb form this season and hence the Spanish giants may not want to add another winger.
According to Fichajes, Gunners are most likely candidates to sign Nico Williams. They will need to pay his €58 million release clause. Athletic Club will not like to negotiate below the demanded fee. Gunners can opt to pay the fee fully as Williams can be looked as long-term investment.
Williams can be a great addition to the Arsenal side. He can directly replace Martinelli or act as backup for him initially. In addition, he can serve as a quality backup for Saka. Mikel Arteta will be happy to add him as soon as possible.
