Robin van Persie is viewed as an Arsenal legend by many due to his brilliant spell at North London. But the Dutchman has now closed the door on return to the Emirates due to one particular reason.
Arsenal signed Van Persie from Feyenoord in 2004 where the Dutchman ended his career in 2019. Van Persie had a brilliant 8 year spell at North London. He played 278 matches for Gunners and scored 132 goals along with picking 56 assists.
Van Persie won FA Cup with Gunners and also helped them to reach UCL final in 2005/06 season. Many view him as an Arsenal legend but some fans disagree with this. It is because his controversial move for Arsenal rivals Manchester United in 2012.
Van Persie joined United in search of Premier League title and did win it in his first season itself with Red Devils. He had a very good 3 year spell at Manchester where he played 105 matches. The Dutchman left United with 58 goals and 15 assists.
Robin van Persie rules out return to Arsenal in future
Van Persie has now started managerial career and currently manages SC Heerenveen. He was recently asked in an interview with Sportcast about return to the Emirates as a manager in future.
“I don’t expect to work at Arsenal. I think that door is closed. Because of my switch to Manchester United, that is my assesment” – Van Persie ruling out return to Arsenal as manager.
“It is still sensative for them, not for me. It is especially sensative for Arsenal fans. I have learned that planning so far ahead makes no sense at all. I don’t want that either, I mainly live in the here and now” – Van Persie on his present and future.
Lastly, the Dutchman said that he is enjoying right now and is happy to be the manager of Heerenveen. He added that he feels very welcome within the club and the fans which is really important.
