Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell passed away earlier this summer on 15th June. But the cause of death was never publicized by the family members. However, recently an inquest told that, Mr Campbell died due to multi-organ failure. It happened from a fatal heart infection.
Former Arsenal striker died at the age of 54. While staying at Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI). He was admitted there for a month, since the middle of May. The cause of death of Mr Campbell was revealed by Zak Golombek, the area coroner of Manchester. He recently opened an inquest to announce some news regarding the demise on Thursday.
Zak claimed that the on paper cause of death for Kevin Campbell was multi-organ failure. Manchester University’s NHS Foundation Trust declared a level 5 care on him when he was admitted. This foundation is the main body of the organization, who manages the hospital. Level 5 is the most serious category for patients, so it is clear that Mr Campbell was in a very serious condition when he got admitted.
When Zak was speaking about the details of the case, no family members or relatives of Mr Campbell were present at the Manchester coroner’s court.
Full details of Kevin Campbell case
Zak mentioned that Kevin Campbell was fit and steady until the start of the year. But around January things started to get worse. As since then it is reported that Mr Campbell had several visits to the hospital until his last visit in May.
However, Zak has also pointed his fingers on the hospital organization. As he mentioned that in the ‘Level 5 incident related to aspects of Mr Campbell’s care’ there were some references of delay in care and diagnosis. There were also some concerns related to the decision makings. These are very big claims against any hospital. This can even cancel their license if further steps are taken. As a patients life depends on the hands of the people in charge of the decision makings.
Zak even confirmed that these matters are now officially subject of internal interests of hospital trust. So he has asked for a full investigation report as soon as possible. Zak also mentioned to add statements from all the doctors and nurses who were in care of Mr Campbell. As he wants to provide single details to the family of the legend footballer.
“I have also received notification from the trust that a medical cause of death can be offered and therefore I will consider evidence from the clinicians involved in Mr Campbell’s care as to the cause of his death. The provisional cause of death, as it stands, refers to Mr Campbell dying from multi-organ failure as a result of infective endocarditis.”
At last, Zak said,
“So, final determinations on the medical cause of death and the care afforded to Mr Campbell will be made as part of the inquest process. I will adjourn the proceedings to await additional disclosure.”
