Liverpool and Arsenal are set to battle it out for the signature of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate. The 21-year-old is highly-regarded by Leipzig and has made 83 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.

Konate has attracted attention all across Europe because of his impressive performances for the German club.

Capped 11 times by France U21s, he recently shot to fame after shutting out Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in a Champions League match.

The Frenchman reportedly has a release clause of €50 million. The 21-year-old is one of the highest-rated young players in Europe. RB Leipzig are unlikely to let go of their prized possession midway through the season.

Arsenal have also turned their attention to Ibrahima Konate. This development occurred after being frustrated with their attempts to sign his RB Leipzig teammate, Dayot Upamecano.

The North London club have signed a number of defenders in the recent past to help solve their woes at the back.

Gunners’ defense has been their Achilles heel for the past few years and Arteta will be looking to solve the problem as soon as possible.

Arsenal are currently 14th in the league and have only won 4 out of a possible 10. Mikel Arteta is coming under the most pressure he has had since arriving as manager last season.

Liverpool have added RB Leipzig defender, Ibrahima Konate, to their list of potential January targets, according to reports.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to be without first-choice pairing Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for the rest of the season due to long-term injuries.

The Merseyside giants have actually been highly linked with Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.

But Konate would apparently cost substantially less than Upamecano, although the Premier League champions might face firm competition from Arsenal.

Klopp is reported to have a budget of £40m to land a new defensive recruit.

Therefore, he wouldn’t be far away from Konate’s asking price. It is, however, claimed FSG are willing to provide the funds needed to back Klopp. Arsenal and Liverpool need to battle with other big European clubs if they want to lant Konate in near future.
