Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares is shining bright in Italy right now. He is proving Mikel Arteta wrong and can force the Gunners boss to change his plans for future.
Gunners signed Tavares in 2021 and played 28 times in his first season. He was only able to score 1 goal and pick 2 assists and hence was sent on loan in the next season. He had a good season with Marseille where he was able to score 6 times in 39 matches.
After an impressive season in France it seemed like Tavares still has place in Arsenal squad. But he was again sent on loan to Nottingham Forest last season. The Portugese star was only able to play 12 times as he face an injury too.
This summer Tavares joined Lazio on loan and it is turning out to be his best ever season. The 24 year old full back has picked 8 assists in 8 games and has proved Mikel Arteta wrong. He has helped Lazio to secure 5th position in the Serie A table.
Tavares has xG of 0.60 and xA of 2.36 this season. He has 13 shots in 8 games and has created 16 chances so far. He has 81.7% passing accuracy, 50% long ball accuracy and 35.6% cross accuracy.
Lastly, he has won 81.8% tackles, 59.3% ground duels and 66.7% ariel duels. Tavares has been very good in making interceptions, blocks and recoveries too. All stats are as per FOTMOB.
Can Nuno Tavares change Arsenal manager’s plans?
At the moment, it would have been perfect chance for Tavares to shine if he was at Arsenal. Riccardo Calafiori has been out injured which has forced Jurrien Timber to play even though he is not fully fit.
Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney are very likely to get sold next year. This will open up space at the fullback department and Mikel Arteta will have to rethink about selling Tavares permanently.
But as of now, Tavares is very likely to get sold permanently next summer. He still has a lot of time to prove himself and everyone will hope that he makes a strong statement in the upcoming months.
