The English winger made a deadline day move across the town to Fulham is search of more game time. Nelson was snubbed by Arteta again this year despite scoring crucial goals in the previous season. So, this summer he was destined to be sold but couldn’t secure a permanent deal so went out on loan. The winger has been performing well since day one at Craven Cottage. The stats are looking good for Nelson this season and some of the Fulham fans have already fallen in love with the 24-year-old. Anyway, the start is good but he may have to deal with some roadblocks on the way. But will Fulham end up making this move permanent at the end of the season?
REISS NELSON TIME AT ARSENAL
Reiss Nelson joined Arsenal academy at the age of nine. Since then he has not left the club. He prospered through the gunners academy system. Nelson made his first team debut in 2017. He was soon noted for his pacy runs, technical ability and versatility. He can play on either wings or even at times in full back positions. After making a few first team appearances he was loaned out to German side Hoffenheim in 2018-19 season. It was some what his breakthrough season where he scored 7 goals in 23 Bundesliga matches. However his progression has been obstructed by injuries and inconsistency. Which in turn limited his playing time with Arsenal.
In 2021-22 season he went on loan again to Eredivisie side Feyenoord. Playing under Arne Slot he helped them reach the UEFA Conference League final that year. After returning to Arsenal he came out and contributed last minute goals and assists during their title charge in 2022-23 season. Anyway, with so much attacking talent within the Arsenal squad it was pretty sure that it would be hard for him to get minutes. So, for finding more minutes, he has now moved to Fulham along with former Arsenal teammate Emil Smith Rowe.
LOAN MOVE TO FULHAM
Nelson’s loan move to Fulham from cross town rivals Arsenal was finalized on the deadline day. We have to say that it has started in spectacular fashion. He has already scored 2 goals and assisted once in his first five appearances across all competitions. The 24-year-old made his debut for the Cottagers against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup. He even scored in the second half of the match to level the game. The game later went on to penalties and Preston won in spectacular fashion for 16-15. One of the longest penalty shootouts in the history of English football. This was followed by a crucial goal in the their 3-1 Premier League victory against Newcastle United.
This has certainly bought him some love among the Fulham fans. He has already proved to the manager that he is a really good option in attack. His stats doesn’t just end with the goal contribution. Nelson has had 100% shot accuracy and over 82% passing accuracy in the Premier League. Other than that he has made 23 duels winning 40% of them. Stats from Fulhamish.com. His versatility will be a valuable asset for Marco Silva and company. He can play on either wing which will help them to switch game plans easily during the matches.
However, the starting position still goes to Adama Traore who has huge potential and impact on the pitch. Anyhow Reiss Nelson has been a team player all his career so whether he is starting or coming off from the bench he is going to utilize his chance very well and try to help the team. That is what he was doing with Arsenal for the past couple of seasons.
