The former Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen, 28, could be in for a sensational return to Premier League after falling out of favour under Antonio Conte. Eriksen joined Inter Milan on a £17 million deal in January 2020 after rejecting a new contract at Spurs.
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte would be tempted by a swap move with Arsenal for Granit Xhaka. Arsenal with a mixed start to the season sits in 12th spot in the Premier League ahead of their trip to Leeds United.
“This is not what I dreamed of. I think all football players want to play as much as possible. It is never fun to sit on the bench, but the coach decides who plays.
However, the coach has different ideas and I have to respect that as a player.
I am concentrating on my football, then when the transfer window opens we will see if something will happen or not.”– Christian Eriksen
Arsenal have struggled this season in terms of chances created from midfield. Mesut Ozil frozen out and a failed move for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar in the summer transfer window. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is in the market for an attacking midfielder and a swap move for Christian Eriksen with Granit Xhaka sounds ideal for all the parties involved.
Granit Xhaka has lost his place to new summer signing Thomas Partey, later partnered with Mohamed Elneny in midfield.
North London Rivalry to affect Christian Eriksen move?
Christian Eriksen has 51 goals and 62 assists in 226 league appearances for Arsenal’s arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur. He could become the first player to move from Spurs to Gunners since the iconic Sol Campbell transfer in 2001.
When asked about Christian Eriksen to Arsenal reports, the Arsenal legend certainly liked the idea.
“He makes us better, that’s what I think. No disrespect to Granit Xhaka, but I think Christian Eriksen is a better player than Granit Xhaka, and he’s got more to his game going forward than Granit Xhaka”
“We know he’s played for the opposition, but I don’t really care, he’s not there now, he’s left there, he’s gone to Inter Milan. It’s not worked out and we could make this happen, why not?”– Sol Campbell
Manchester United interested in Eriksen as well?
According to Corriere della Sport via Football Italia, Inter are ready to offer Eriksen in a swap deal involving Manchester United midfielder Fred.
United were interested in signing Denmark International during his time at Tottenham. If any deal is to happen, Manchester United may consider selling Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata first to make a room for Eriksen.
Red Devils currently sit in 9th position in the league table after a scrappy win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. With 4 victories in 8 matches, any addition to the squad will be a huge boost for their pursuit of top-four achievement.
