Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes Gunners will be prepared for an unpredictable window.
With just 4 weeks for the January transfer window, clubs gear up to strengthen their squads. Arsenal on a run of 1 win in 6 matches could desperately use this opportunity to improve their creativity. But this won’t be straight forward as Arsenal already have a large squad. If any deal is to be done, Arsenal need to sell first.
Each club in Premier League can only register 17 non-home grown players. As Arsenal already exceeded this number in the summer transfer window, Arsenal couldn’t register Mesut Ozil and Sokratis for this season.
Arsenal were active in the summer transfer window as Gunners bought in Thomas Partey and Gabriel in big-money deals and snapped up Willian on a free transfer. Speaking on the January transfer window, Mikel Arteta stated:
“We are planning, talking with Edu and with the club about the things we can do in January.“At the moment it’s pretty difficult, unpredictable as well in terms of places as we are very restricted at the moment.
“We’ll see what happens, I think things will move in the market, we will be prepared. We will need to do something knowing the limitations of that market in January. And the limitations we have as well to sign players.”– Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta
Arteta targets a new attacking midfielder for Arsenal in January?
It is no doubt that Arsenal needs reinforcements in the Attacking Midfield role. However, a deal couldn’t be completed. A potential move for Houssem Aouar excited Arsenal. But a move for Frenchmen couldn’t materialize as Arsenal didn’t match Lyon’s asking fee.
Lyon needs to sell players in the transfer window to balance their books, as a result, they may have to cash in on one of their biggest assets.
Dominik Szoboszlai is another target on Arsenal’s radar. The highly-rated Hungarian has burst onto the scene this season and looks destined for an away this January. Hungarian has a £23 million release clause on his RB Salzburg contract. But a move to North London won’t be straight forward as RB Leipzig are leading the chase for his signature.
Former Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen is another player linked with a move to Emirates. Eriksen is out of favour under Antonio Conte and with a price tag of £12 million, Christian Eriksen could become the first player to move from Spurs to Arsenal since Sol Campbell.
After an impressive victory against Rapid Vienna, Arsenal face league leaders and rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the first North London Derby of the season.
