Arsenal have started the 2024/25 season on a positive note. They have defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers at The Emirates. Gunners won the match by 2 goals and kept a clean sheet. Mikel Arteta is desperate to win the Premier League title this time. On the other hand, the transfer markey is still ongoing. We are in the final two weeks before the market closes. Gunners want to sign atleast two new players. They have been able to add only one new face to their squad. They want to sign a winger, striker and a midfielder. It is said that the midfielder will arrive in the coming week. However, a striker and winger is still left on the list. As for the winger, Arsenal can be seen going after Nico Williams once again.
Gunners have signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for £39 million. He has now completed the backline of the team. Arsenal are stronger than ever at the back. David Raya is also a permanent Arsenal player after an impressive loan season. As for the midfielder, Gunners are very close to sign Mikel Merino. The deal is said to be completed in the next week. Now, Gunners need to speed up their process. They need to sign a striker and a winger before 30 August when the transfer window closes.
Arsenal may go for Nico Williams once again
Nico Williams had a very good 2023/24 season. He carried that form in the Euros. Infact he was even better for Spain than for Athletic Bilbao. He helped Spain to win the Euros for the historic fourth time. In addition, he even scored in the final. Williams caught eyes of the top clubs in the Europe. Arsenal were one of them. However, no talks were reported to have been advanced. It was seeming like the deal is off. However, Gunners are said to go again for Williams as they want to sell two of their academy stars. Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson are said to move away from The Emirates this summer.
Football journalist Kaya Kaynak was asked about Arsenal’s target on Football London. He said that Arsenal have Nico Williams as their top choice in the winger department. However, Kaynak added that the deal may prove very difficult to pull for Arsenal. According to him, there are three reasons making this deal difficult for Gunners. Firstly, he has interest from Barcelona. Secondly, his huge wage demands. And Lastly, Bilbao wants his whole release clause to be paid fully this summer.
However, the first reason is the least of Arsenal’s concerns. FC Barcelona are almost out of the deal due to their financial crises. In addition, they have already signed Dani Olmo for £47 million. Hence, Gunners need to worry about only two of those three reasons. However, it is still very difficult and there are no concrete news about them going after Nico Williams.
Two academy graduates may move away from the club
Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson are said to move away from Arsenal this summer. Their sale will be registered as pure profit as they are both the academy talents. Arsenal could use that money to trigger the release clause of Nico Williams. However, none of Nelson or Nketiah is close to leave the club. They are both still part of the squad. However, Mikel Areta has no intention to use them.
Nketiah was linked with a move to Marseille. However, the deal failed as Marseille were not ready to pay the demanded price by Arsenal. Bournemouth were linked with Nketiah too, but now have signed Evanilson. Nketiah is currently looked upon by Nottingham Forest and Everton. Reiss Nelson has interest from West Ham United and Leicester City. Gunners are demanding more than £15 million for Nelson. This is causing a big turn off in any possible deals. We may see some more bids for both of these players as only around 10 days are remaining of the summer transfer window.
