The summer transfer window is in the final stage. There is only a week remaining for the window to be over. Arsenal are still active in the transfer market. However, they have only been able to sign two players. They have started the Premier League season with a great win over Wolves. Sporting director Edu is now very busy to sign some more players to strengthen the Arsenal squad. His priority now is the get the Mikel Merino deal over the line. However, the club also needs to focus on winger. Arsenal have now monitored Ademola Lookman who already has experience playing in the Premier League.
Arsenal have only been able to sign two players till now. One of them is David Raya who was with the club on loan last season. The second one is Riccardo Calafiori who has arrived from Bologna. Mikel Merino has already signed for Arsenal but it is not yet announced. According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have agreed to pay £32.67 million to Real Sociedad. Gunners will pay £28.43 million initially and the rest £4.24 million is considered as add-ons. Merino is offered a four year contract and he will undergo his medical very soon. Now Arsenal are focused on winger.
Arsenal linked with Ademola Lookman
Firstly, Gunners wanted to sign both striker and winger after completing signing of Merino. However, now they will not sign a striker this summer. Arteta said that he is lucky to have current attacking players. He is said to use Kai Havertz as his main striker just like last season. However, Eddie Nketiah is still linked with a move away from The Emirates. Gunners now have shifted their focus on Atlanta winger who has caught eyes of many big clubs.
Gunners are said to offer Atlanta €50 million along with Jakub Kiwior. Kiwior has lost his place in the Arsenal squad. Due to the signing of Calafiori, he was left out of the squad in the Premier League opener. Arsenal view Kiwior leaving as the best option available for both parties. Atlanta want around €70 million for Lookman. However they may accept the discounted price if they get Jakub Kiwior in a swap deal along with €50 million.
Arsenal are not the only club linked with Ademola Lookman. Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are also interested to sign him. It is said that PSG are leading the race currently. However, Atlanta are not ready to sell the winger. They have offered Lookman an improved deal which will make him earn €3.5 million per season.
How good is Lookman
Ademola Lookman mainly plays as a striker. However, he is hugely versatile and can play as a left winger, attacking midfielder and left midfielder. This makes Ademola Lookman a perfect fit for Arsenal. In addition, Lookman has already played in the Premier League. He has played for Everton and Leicester City back in the time. Lookman has played for England national team at youth levels. However, he decided to play for Nigeria at the senior level. He has played 22 matches for Nigeria and scored 6 goals for them.
Lookman had a very good 2023/24 season. He scored 17 goals and provided 9 assists across all competitions. Three of his goals came in Europa League final. His hattrick helped Atlanta to win their first ever European title. They defeated German champions Bayern Leverkusen who were invincible in the Bundesliga. Lookman is very clever in the final third. He can unlock opposition defence will clever passes and clever runs. He has high pace, quick feet and great finishing. Lookman may not be the first choice winger or striker at Arsenal but he can serve as a top-quality backup that any manager in the world would like to have.
