Arsenal news: Why exactly was January window so quiet?

Arsenal had an extremely quiet January transfer window. They were keen to improve the attacking department but the club was not able to add any new face to the squad.

Why was the January window so quiet for Arsenal?

As per The Athletic, Gunners were looking for long-term solutions in the market. Despite having an urgent need they were not interested in any temporary solutions. Maybe, that’s the reason behind their minimum activity in the window.

Gunners had two names as long-term solutions. But, they failed to land any of them this window. First was Vitor Reis but the Brazilian club opted to join Man City. Gunners were reported to have lead above anyone else at one point. However, they were unable to make the most out of it.

Second on the list was Sverre Nypan who is yet to choose his next club. Nypan is also being chased by Man City. He has already been in talks with both Gunners and City. The 18 year old will take his final decision in summer window.

What can be expected from Gunners in summer?

Arsenal did make some activity this window. They were willing to pay £40 million to land Ollie Watkins. But, Aston Villa rejected the bid for two reasons. Firstly, they parted ways with Jhon Duran and second reason is that they demanded around £60 million for Watkins.

Gunners were said to go again after Watkins but they never did that. Maybe, they are not happy with price tag and think it is better to wait until summer. They will definately go after striker in the summer window and we can expect a big move in that department.

In addition to striker, Gunners are also expected to sign a winger. They have some names shortlisted and it will be no surprise if they step-up their interest in summer. Lastly, one or two midfielders are also expected to join the North London giants.
