Arsenal is edging ever closer to their first major summer signing worth £42m after the official completion of David Raya’s transfer.
The summer transfer market is in full swing now as the Gunners look to strengthen their squad before the start of the upcoming season.
Last summer Edu went to spend some big with the arrival of the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz. Later, Jurrien Timber and David Raya also joined to strengthen the Emirates.
However, Arsenal lost out to the Title after coming agonizingly close to the silverware. Now Arteta and Edu will be looking to strengthen out the starting XI and the whole squad in general. The target is to get over the Man City mark this summer.
And the Emirates seem just ‘one step away’ from adding an ‘amazing’ player to their plans.

Arsenal one step away from getting Riccardo Calafiori
The long wait for Riccardo Calafiori might be coming to an end soon. The Italian star defender has been linked with the Gunners for the past few weeks. Now according to DAZN Italia journalist, Orazio Accomando, Calafiori’s arrival at the Emirates might just be one step away.
Posting his statement on X, the Italian journalist claimed that a deal between Arsenal and Bologna worth £42m has been agreed upon. Meanwhile, a deal of £4m per season for Calafiori was agreed upon.
Adding a new defender to the team was one of the top priorities for Arteta this summer. And although the performances of Gabriel and William Saliba are impressive along with Ben White and others, the signing is important for Arsenal.
Calafiori can manage the left side of a back four or back three. Furthermore, his class performance in Bologna and now Euros make him surely an ‘amazing’ player to add.
So, it will not be a surprise if we see the deal completed before the weekend before the pre-season goes in full swing.

Why go for Riccardo Calafiori
The stats for the 22-year-old speaks for itself if not anything else. His performance at Bologna very well justifies his position as a well-versed center-back. However, one could argue that Serie A is not as competitive as the Premier League but still, it can’t be ignored how good numbers this “sensational” center-back has.
Calafiori made 37 appearances for the Bologna side in which he scored two goals and provided five assists. He also completed 90% of successful passes for the side. Further, it is important to note that Calafiori plays on the front foot. This would help Arsenal control the game and put pressure on the opposition.
He also registered an impressive 1.7 interceptions, 1.6 tackles, and 2.5 clearances per league game. Moreover, the Italian made on average 6.5 ball recoveries and gave outstanding aerial challenges winning 71% of his aerial duels during his time in Serie A.
These stats truly speak for themselves making this signing important for Arsenal.
