Arsenal prepared to spend half year without Sporting Director

Arsenal have now a major task to appoint a new sporting director as club legend Edu left the role. But, Gunners don’t seem in a hurry and are prepared to wait for around 6 months before appointing new candidate. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will play a big role in the process along with other members of board.

Edu was the the first ever sporting director of the North London football club. He was doing a really good job and it can be seen through the progress made by Arsenal. But now he has left the job to join multi-club network of Evangelos Marinakis.

Nottingham Forest is one of the clubs owned by the company who have offered Edu a salary of around £5 million per year. Edu’s departure was a shock to Arsenal board as Arteta said that it was surprise because everything happened very quickly.

Arsenal prepared to wait for six months before appointing new Sporting Director

As per The Guardian, Gunners can wait fir six months before appointing a new candidate. They want a best possible fit and Mikel Arteta will play a major role in the recruitment process. As of now, Jason Ayto who is assistant sporting director is set to step up.

Ayto joined Arsenal in 2014 as a video scout. He has then progresses really well to be where he is right now. He will surely be one of the candidates to take the sporting director role. But it is believed that Gunners want someone with more experience as sporting director.

Arsenal will now prepare for the upcoming january transfer window. The board is set to hold a meeting with club owners in the upcoming international break to discuss the matters and make plans for future. Gunners are very heavily linked with lot of players but it is believed that may not make big moves in winter.
