Arsenal prepares new contract for Saliba post Real Madrid’s interest

Arsenal are preparing a new contract for their French center-back William Saliba. The Champions League winners of 2024 Real Madrid have hinted interest towards the defender.

Gunners are not very keen on parting ways with Saliba. He has been one of the strongest players in the squad. One thing that has been very good for Arsenal is their defence this season. William has been one of the strongholds of the Gunners defence.

Real Madrid won La Liga and the Champions League last season. The Los Blancos have started their campaign on a good note. They remain unbeaten in La Liga in their opening nine games. However, they faced a shocking Champions League defeat against French club LOSC Lille. This ended their 14-game unbeaten streak in the European tournament.

The Spanish giants already have a star-studded defensive lineup. They have only conceded six games across all competitions this season. The central defence of the club is occupied by two players. Saliba has no intentions of leaving Arsenal

Gunners acquired William in the 2019 season from the French club Saint-Etienne for 27 million euros. They loaned him back again to the same club on a season-long term. Saliba spent the next two seasons of 2020 and 2021 on loan with OGC Nice and Marseille.

The defender has cemented his position as Arsenal’s top defender after his return from Marseille. He has found his rhythm with fellow teammate Gabriel Magalhaes. This duo together have fortified the Arsenal defence.
