Arsenal return to action with a win over their archrivals

Premier League giants Arsenal have registered a dominant victory over their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners won over Spurs in their home ground the White Hart Lane. This was the third win in a row for Arsenal in the North London derby in three seasons.

Both the teams were giving each other serious competition until halftime. The scenes after the 45th minute were quite different. The scenario changed for the Gunners in the 64th minute. The corner for Arsenal headed on goal by left-winger Gabriell Martinelli.

The Brazilian lost his marker and thumped a header in that came in a corner from Bukayo Saka. This put the derby score at 1-0. Tottenham did have a lot of chances in the game but failed to capitalize on them. The pressure that the players in black kits put weathered Spurs away. Ange Postecoglou’s side were seriously weak on the defensive front.

This victory was very essential for Arsenal. They are two points behind their Premier League rivals Manchester City. The Gunners could not afford to drop points in league games. As they are to face Manchester City on 22nd September in the Etihad Stadium.

Tottenham will be distraught to lose this clash. They were the more dominant side before halftime. They took full advantage of Arsenal’s weak midfield as key players were missing. Gunners captain Martin Odegaard’s and Declan Rice’s absence was a major problem in the midfield.

Are Arsenal prepared for the Champions League?

After a victory against their North London rivals Arsenal go on to start their Champions League campaign.

The champion’s league draw has set Atlanta as Arsenal’s first match-up in Europe’s premier competition. Atlanta the current Europa League winners will be a tough opponent for Mikel Areta’s men.

The Italian club defeated the Bundesliga winners to a 3-0 victory in Europa. This side is managed by Gian Piero Giaspeni who won the club a trophy after 63 years. The Europa win has helped them grab their seats to compete in Europe’s no.1 tournament.

Atalanta’s start to the 2024-2025 season has been below par so far. they have managed to win only once and lose twice which included a loss against Inter Milan 4-0. Giaspeni’s team currently sits in the ninth place in Serie A.

So far, there is a different story with the Gunners. Arteta’s men stand confident as they have recently come out on top in an important game. They recently won their North London derby in a 1-0 win against their long-time rivals Tottenham Hotspur. They have racked up 10 points in their opening four games in the Premier League.

The good start to their English campaign has helped them gather confidence. Mikel’s men have only conceded once in their last four outings. There are some serious questions for their midfield. Many important players remain out due to unfortunate reasons.

Injuries and suspension are still problems for the gunners

After defeating Spurs in the North London derby, Arsenal will now feature in the Champions League. While they remain confident going in there are serious concerns for them.

The derby game raised some pointers for Mikel Arteta. Although they did win the match 1-0, one area where Arsenal seriously lacked was the midfield. Tottenham took full advantage of this weakness in the first half of the derby.

Gunner captain Martin Odegaard was injured in Norway’s match against Austria in the Nation’s League. The midfielder sprained his ankle which had him out of the clash against Spurs.

Defender Ricardo Calafiori is also out due to a calf injury. He was injured during Italy’s clash against France in the international break. The player has sought treat treatment within the camp. Bukayo Saka also has to deal with an injury that he got in his game against Tottenham according to Footaballondon.

Mikel Merino has also fractured his shoulder during training. The Spanish are out of playing for a few weeks. All injuries aside, Declan Rice has also missed an important game but will feature against Atlanta. Rice was out due to a controversial red card against Brighton.

Mikel Arteta will look to strengthen his team’s strong suits and go ahead in the new season. The manager will look to end Arsenal’s trophy drought this campaign.
