One Arsenal star is very close to seal his move away from the Emirates. He will depart from North London in summer for free as his contract will expire at the end of this season.
The star in question here is Italian midfielder Jorginho. The 33 year old has just 5 months left on his current contract. He is unlikely to get contract extension like the past summer. Gunners are already making moves to replace him this summer.
Arsenal are said to be very close to agree deal with Martin Zubimendi. They will need to pay €60 million which is the release clause in Spaniard’s contract. In addition, they are also in pole position to land Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg.
Jorginho is set to leave as a free agent in summer. However, Gunners had a chance to earn a little amount of money by parting ways with him this window itself. Brazilian club Flamengo were interested to sign the Italian but Gunner rejected the offer.
Mikel Arteta wants to have a proper squad depth and hence is unwilling to let Jorginho leave. The Italian has played 20 games this season and has always stepped up for the North London club when needed.
Jorginho set to depart from Arsenal in summer
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Jorginho is close to sign a pre-contract with Flamengo. The Brazilian club are hoping to get the deal done in next days. This will allow them to bring Jorginho in the squad for Club World Cup 2025.
Firstly, the North London club will not earn any money from the deal due to it being free transfer. They rejected the offer to part ways with Italian in January window. Earlier, they did the same with Kieran Tierney who signed pre-contract with Celtic. There has been no decision yet made about Thomas Partey who is also set to leave as free agent.
