One Arsenal star has rejected the offer of contract extension by the club. This has caused disappointment for the club but the player is also disappointment by the club’s approach towards him.
Gunners are set to lose Thomas Partey and Jorginho for free this year. However, this is not related to any of them. Arsenal want to avoid any more players leaving for free in the future and hence are operating wisely at the moment.
The star in question here is Belgian winger Leandro Trossard. The 30 year old joined Gunners in January 2023 and has became widely popular in North London. He is often called as superb-sub by Arsenal fans.
Trossard is tied to Gunners with a contract running until 2026. He has done very well for club and the board is happy with him. There were reports that the Belgian will sign a contract extension very soon. But, that topic has now taken an ugly turn.
Leandro Trossard rejects offer from Arsenal
According to Football Transfers, Trossard has rejected the offer of contract extension. The North London club offered the Belgian one year contract extension with an option to extend another. They have this strategy as policy for players above 30 years old.
However, Trossard is unhappy with the offer and has rejected it. Hence, the talks between both parties have stopped and both are disappointed. The club is now focused on January window, and talks are very likely to resume after the end of the season.
Trossard has not been to his best this season so far. He only has 4 goals and 3 assists in 28 games this season. This may be the reason behind the North London club offering a short-term contract.
A fallout in new contract may suggest that Arsenal can sell Trossard in summer. The Belgian has huge interest from Saudi who are willing to pay huge price. Gunners may part ways with him and use that money to land their targets like Nico Williams or Matheus Cunha.
