A few of Arsenal International stars have been left out from the National team squads for October’s International break.
Arsenal have been in really good form since the start of the season as they remain unbeaten until now. It is astonishing that they survived all these big matches without their captain Martin Odegaard. Anyway, some of their stars have been in hot form like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and the list goes on. It is no doubt that a number of them will feature for the national team in October but 8 of them have not made the mark. Let’s look into it in detail.
JORGINHO
It’s no doubt that Jorginho hasn’t made into the national team this time. He has featured less for the Gunners as Arteta has always favored the midfield duo of Declan Rice and Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian, Partey provides the defensive cover Arteta wants and Rice who acts as a box-to-box player, controls the midfield. That has worked for Arsenal from the start of the season, which puts Jorginho into the bench. Anyway, the Italian has featured from the substitutes bench at times. On the other hand, the Italian national team has found effective replacements in Sandro Tonali, Frattesi, Nico Barella and Samuele Ricci. However, his teammate Riccardo Calafiori has been called up to the national team.
GABRIEL JESUS
Gabriel Jesus has also been left out of the national team for similar reasons. The forward has lacked consistency since the start of the season. With a whole host of talent in the Brazil national team the loss of Gabriel Jesus will not be an issue. The 27-year-old has featured mostly from the bench while Kai Havertz has been the starter. The German plays in a way that perfectly suits the Mikel Arteta style and he has been in brilliant form since the start of the season. He scored 6 goals and provided an assist in 12 appearances.
TAKEHIRO TOMIYASU
The Japanese full back has been injured for so long and recently returned to the pitch against Southampton on Saturday. With only a limited time played and unfit to play a whole match it is not a surprise he has been dropped from the Japanese national team.
JURIEN TIMBER
The Dutchman Jurien Timber was forced off injured at half time against Paris Saint-Germain in the midweek. He then went on to miss Arsenal’s next game against Southampton. Timber missed the whole of the 2023-24 season through an ACL injury and Arteta wouldn’t try to risk him so as the Netherlands national team. Like Brazil Netherlands have a pool of players to choose from and Timber’s absence wouldn’t seem that concerning for the team.
It is a blessing in disguise for Arsenal as their first choice right back can now rest during the International break and gradually return to training.
BEN WHITE
Ben White is another absentee from the England national team. It is unsurprising since the Englishman has not featured for England since snubbing the 2022 FIFA World Cup. White has also not featured for Arsenal for the last three games and is not back in training.
OLEKSANDER ZINCHENKO
Zinchenko is another one who has remained injured for a long period now. He suffered a knock towards the build up of the North London Derby against Spurs which was before the 15th of September. The Ukrainian has not featured for Arsenal since then and has not yet started training with the squad. So he misses out from making the national team through injury.
MARTIN ODEGAARD
Arsenal fans wouldn’t have recovered from the scare they suffered during the previous International break. They saw their captain lying on the ground screaming after he suffered a crunch tackle. Odegaard is someone Arsenal rely so much on and life without him has not been easy. Mikel Arteta and company have somehow survived some huge matches during this time thanks to their grit and team spirit.
Anyway, Odegaard misses out from making the Norway national team through injury. He is still recovering and as per The Mirror, it is reported that the man himself has come out with comments on his injury situation. To the delight of Gunners fans and Mikel Arteta the Norwegian has said that he is getting “better and better by the day”.
KAI HAVERTZ
The German federation has announced on Saturday the 6th of October that Kai Havertz has been dropped from the National team owing to injury concerns. It is bad news again for the Gunners. The 25-year-old is one of the standout players for Arsenal this season. Scoring 6 times in the last 12 games. Moreover, he has perfectly fit into the system Mikel Arteta prefers. Havertz’s movements off the ball and the passing game has facilitated Martinelli, Saka and Trossard to score more goals.
