Arsenal were keen to sign one Spanish player this summer. But the player’s current club took some firm stance about his future. The North London club are not giving up on the Spaniard just yet and are willing to go after him again.
The player in question is Joan Garcia of Espanyol. Garcia was on the radar of Gunners this summer. The North London club had to part ways with Aaron Ramsdale who was unwilling to continue as backup keeper.
Gunners tried very hard to sign Garcia who was also willing to move. But, the North London clu were unwilling to pay his €25 million release clause. Later, the clause increased to €30 million.
Espanyol looked at Garcia as key player for their season. Hence, they will unwilling to lose him for anything less than his release clause. This made it very difficult for the Gunners to sign the Spaniard.
Arsenal then gave up on Garcia and opted to sign Neto on loan. Neto is unlikely to continue after this season and hence Gunners are still in market for backup keeper. They are very likely to enter the market for their top target next year.
Arsenal still keen to sign Joan Garcia
According to The Mirror, Gunners are still keen to sign Garcia next year. But the report adds that Espanyol are also firm on their stance and want the player’s release clause to be paid fully.
Espanyol are having a hard season right now. They are on 18th position in La Liga and can get relegated. If they do get relegated, it will be very hard for them to keep hold of key players like Joan Garcia.
Garcia has been one of the bright lights despite the tough season for Espanyol. He has already made 64 saves in 18 La Liga games. Raya who is main keeper at Arsenal, has made 45 saves in 18 Premier League games.
