One of the summer signing made by Mikel Arteta in summer 2024 has came to their rescue. He helped Arsenal to pick all three points in Premier League clash against Leicester City.
Gunners took on Leicester City today at the King Power Stadium. They were having a tough game. Mikel Arteta’s men were dominating in possesion but were unable to make anything of it. As a result, they were very close to drop points once again.
Earlier, Liverpool dropped points against Everton. This gave Gunners a slight hope that they can still compete for the league title. But, they were once again close to dropping points due to lack of quality in the final third.
However, Mikel Arteta came up with a master-plan to pick all three points. He made a substitution which saw his summer signing enter the pitch. The player ended up scoring twice and securing all three points for North London club.
Mikel Merino wins the game for Arsenal
The star in question is Mikel Merino who joined Gunners this summer from Real Sociedad. He was bought after Arsenal’s failed attempt to land his teammate Martin Zubimendi. The 28 year old has so far played 27 games for Arsenal.
Merino entered the pitch on the 69th minute as a substitute. He was quickly able to impact the game and score the opening goal in 81st minute. Later, he doubled his tally for the day and scored another in 87th minute.
Merino has 100% shot accuracy and also had 67% passing accuracy. He had 16 touches out of which 2 came in opposition half. He also helped in defence and made 1 clearance along with 2 blocks. Lastly, he was able to win 2 out of 3 ariel duels too. All stats as per FOTMOB.
Gunners have escaped dropping points yet again. This shows how much they need attacking players. They should think really hard about summer transfer window and also should prepare themselves to spend big.
